the official NHL thread

And another thing.... I'm pretty sure the ice sucks in a lot of those rinks. Not in Detroit. They take care of their ice. I played hockey throught the college level but can't anymore due to my location. I always loved stepping onto a nice clean sheet of cold ice. It just has a smell to it that makes a hockey player happy. Know what I mean?

hey bud i know exactly what you mean.....i grew up in a small town and played AAA all through my career. We actually played in a rink that was originally an outdoor arena. They had them up till about the 60's way before i was born. I was drafted pretty high in the OHL draft and was projected to be a mid round NHL pick but i quit after my first O training camp. 3 guys i played with and against most notably Steve Ott who plays for Dallas and scored a goal last night for the stars are now in the NHL and im sitting on my ass typing this shit. I actually played on a line with steve and was kind of his "enforecer" though he never needed one. He was the dirtiest mutherfucker i ever played with but he was fuckin good. He went in the FIRST round to dallas the year after they won the cup.

Why'd you quite after training camp?

when you play like i did there were two ways to go.....i enjoyed scoring and they said beef up 30 pounds (this was when i was 15 and weighed 175) and be our scrapper cause i was also my AAA teams fighter but only cause i was big for that age. That combined with my lack of discipline and disrespect for the coaches wishes and they sent me walking.....i never signed with the team (sarnia sting) and then played a year of tier 2 before suffering a severe shoulder dislocation and i never played again.:bawling: but hey i won the cup like 20 times when i was a kid (if you know what i mean) and have no regrets. I loved the game and the teams i played for.......i have friends from those teams that have become closer to me than family. Its all good.

Oh yeah, I know what you mean.

In my case it was pitching a 40 save shoutout in a 1-0 game :D

Had that dream many times. Also had that reality a few times

its so true man....i remember watching a few of my friends (steve ott included) lose to russia in the world juniors championship game and i felt their pain man. Ill never forget what Bob Mackenzie said as they were scrolling along the sad faces of the canadian team....." For alot of these kids this was their stanley cup".....its so true.

and another thing im not a rare thing in Canada. Where im from for every steve ott there are 20 guys just like me.......some of us he'd even say WERE better than him at one point. I cant even count the number of guys i know in my area where they were at one point NHL prospects......the U.S. is starting to catch up though man.....they're gettin better look for them to do some damage at next years world juniors ( the true world championship IMO).

Seems like you have all the fundamentals down. Maybe some day one of your kids will be a hockey star. :)
