I agree with SuperDawgy on that -- I really don't think it's a religious and/or moral issue. I'm also willing to bet that George Bush (or Clinton, for that matter) both 1) Don't know what AAS are and 2) Don't give a rat's ass less about them.
It's a great media picture tho... high-profile atheletes and angry disenfranchised 20-somethings engaging in a dangerous activity that leads to all sorts of undesirable behavior. And now... <gasp>... the younger aspiring atheletes feel the pressure to follow suit and take these dangerous drugs! Now picture your 13 year old son shooting up in the locker room!
Now... here's the picture we NEED to portray. Poor old Joe... he kept his body in fabulous shape all the way till 41. Then, suddenly, he began losing muscle mass... then his libido was next... then he noticed his own personal "tire" growing around his wasteline -- despite swearing he'd rather die than get one. So now, what's Joe gonna do? He can join the ranks of the cheetos-lovin US public, turn-on Dr. Phil and wait to become the next government-subsidized congestive heart failure / diabetic patient (at a mere taxepayer cost of 100,000-300,000 per year) -- OR he can seek appropriate, legal, effective treatment from his family doctor and feel like his old self.
This isn't about getting upset, taking a political stance, adopting a religous view, etc. etc. -- it's marketing. And in marketing, you just have to win. Once you win, you can then make-up your own success story and show how you beat-down the villans who would have opposed you and doomed poor Joe to a life of misery and unneccessary taxpayer expense.
Thanks,
