The legs on these speed skaters

lol, yea...I'm definitely watching speed skating.

i saw an article in a gym mag about trying to replicate the training, at least the volume, and it had you doing sets of 30-50 reps on all exercises (leg) 4 times a week. fucking crazy.

i wonder how much direct weights work they do..........fuck the squats, lets go skating. same as cycling sprinters......huge quads

I know right? The muscle development and strength is phenomenal.

Where's Velvett? I bet she has fantastic quads being a skater herself.

yeah, bodybuilders wax lyrical about how advanced they are, but these athletes shit all over them pound for pound in the size/strength department.

makes a mockery of the overtraining myth

I've read Eric Heiden used to rep 200 lbs or so over 100 times. Track cycling sprinters routinely max in the upper 500's for a single, and these are guys well under 200 lbs.

I work in a cycle shop and one of the managers is an ex-track racer. He was sponsored and the whole deal. To this day he has the biggest quads and calves I've ever seen. When he walks his tear drop flops around with each step. His calves easily rival Arnold's best. To top it off, he's vascular all over his legs. His calves are a roadmap.

What's fucked up is speed skaters usually have a much bigger left leg, because they support themselves with that leg during the turns. The diff can be an inch or more.

LOL

Took me 15 years not to hate them...

Speed skating is just sick, when I was still training we did all sorts of extra on and off ice training and one summer we started speed skating taught by an ex competitive speed skater.

OMG... Imagine squating for 30 minutes straight and if that's not enough you're leaning so far over your edges the side of your heels are on the ice. It's a sick burn - your butt cheeks and quads burn and your quads swell so bad they go numb.

The flip side is - the skates offer no support except at the sole and around the heel so there's a lot of stress at your ankles and after a while your ankles actually thicken.

I still do inline skating during the summer which I really get off on and I highly recommend for speed, strength and endurance training.

That's amazing. I truly admire advanced athletes like these. It just shows you how much the human body can endure.

There is nothing like a beautiful set of quads/hams on a man... Not so much bodybuilder cut up - just nice and sizeable. :) ........not thinking about a turkey sammich
