The Greatest Story Ever Told

Very interesting videos; especially part I.

It should be pointed out that the Industrial Revolution was built on cheap energy from fossil fuels. Unless we miraculously find a low-cost replacement, the trend of growth will stall as fossil fuels become more scarce and expensive. I expect to see that in my lifetime.

I agree, as traditional energy sources become more expensive alternative sources must be found OR better extraction techniques will be developed for traditional sources.

According to "experts" the United States had reached peak oil in 1890. "Fracking" has natural gas prices so low they are closing down coal mines for energy production while new natural gas plants are being built to produce electricity. The coal industry accelerates their exports to Europe and Asia as they are being out competed by natural gas; The US is going "greener" because the market is working; It's cheaper to extract natural gas than mine coal to fuel plants.

Whale oil used to be the primary source of fuel for light then hydrocarbons were discovered and they were not only cheaper but more environmentally friendly than killing whales for blubber.
