After becoming un-Fat by excercise and diet, I now have no pity for these losers.

There are a lot of fat people here in the US with very low self esteem, they think they are grossly incapable of exercise because they are too fat. They see the fatness as a handicap.
So an instructor like that can be a role model to all those people. I for one am fit but will give props to anyone trying their best and not letting their fatness stop them. She is a person with a lot of perseverance and motivation and should be applauded. She could help many with percieved disabilities because of their weight get into fitness for the first time.
It would be the "if she can do it, i can do it" kind of attitude.
Sincerely:

, "Maybe it's his goal weight."As LL alluded to, varying the weights and rep schemes will get you the best results. There's some evidence that suggests that sets in the range of 8-12 reps are the best for building muscle, but the studies ignored the effects of adaptation. You do need to mix it up a bit. I go through phases where I do sets of 5 reps at higher weight, phases where I go to failure (very taxing), and phases where I go with lighter weight for more reps.
But one of the best things is to progress the resistance AND reps in what's called "double progression." What you do is this: Pick a rep range that you want to stay in. Pick a weight that will allow you to do a number of reps toward the lower end of your selected range, and stay at that weight doing as many reps as you can. Over time, the number of reps you can do will increase. When you get to the upper end of your rep range, up the weight to where you're at the low end of your rep range again.
One BIG caveat: I'd be very cautious about taking movements like squats or deadlifts to failure -- the potential for injury is too great to go to total failure, as form will break down before you get to that point.
Also -- do some warm-up sets in each movement before going to your working weight. Example: When I'm doing squats, I'll start with a weight that is at most half of what I'll be doing for my main work sets. I do this to warm up the muscles that I'll be working, and to make sure my form is totally on track. I'll do two more sets, progressing in weight toward my work weight. Then I'll do three sets at my work weight.

hahahahahahahaha.....naafa's lawyers? you should post that up....p0ink said:popped on google when i was searching for something totally non-related. brought back good EF memories.
hey, george spellwin, did naafa's lawyers or anyone associated with them ever contact you and threaten legal action like they swore up and down they were going to do. did you ever get any hate mail or anything else from these people in response to this thread?

note to self...go to naafa site and post up...p0ink said:yeah, NAAFA is a legit organization, believe it or not. they have their little meetings, press releases, parties, etc.
when this thread made news over there, it was like throwing a baseball at a hornets nest. the people there went BAT SHIT. in fact, in their rules it is now forbidden to link any content from EF anywhere on their site. you do, you get banned. no bullshit.
the naafa leaders were talking about how they were going to take me and EF to the mat for all these trumped up charges, such as harassment, copyright infringement, defamation, slander, libel, blah blah blah.
to be honest, i thought they were going to make some legal move. when they first posted it, i sent george an email asking if he had been contacted, but he said he didnt hear from them then (that was like the same day i read it on their site, emailed him, etc). i still wonder what, if anything, happened on spellwins end.
