The FAT Chronicles

I think she will be a great instructor, you know why?

There are a lot of fat people here in the US with very low self esteem, they think they are grossly incapable of exercise because they are too fat. They see the fatness as a handicap.

So an instructor like that can be a role model to all those people. I for one am fit but will give props to anyone trying their best and not letting their fatness stop them. She is a person with a lot of perseverance and motivation and should be applauded. She could help many with percieved disabilities because of their weight get into fitness for the first time.

It would be the "if she can do it, i can do it" kind of attitude.

Sincerely:

:elephant:

Ahhhh........Novel concept....A fatness instructor?

i might have a bad sense of size... but if she eats/excercises properly then i see no problem with her doing the aerobics teaching. too bad they didn't include a photo.

But she probably does not eat properly enough to lose weight. It is not impossible. If you burn more than you consume than you lose weight. She is probably at McDonalds now. Getting that #2 Biggie Size.:mix:

Holy smokes, fat people, have some self respect.

Not in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine there existed an organization for the advancement of fatty-fat fats. :alien:

MY GOD, I've never heard of people getting yeast infections...BETWEEN THE FOLDS OF THEIR SKIN!!!!!!:bawling:

That's just horrible, how can a person live like that??? If I had a "medical condition" and ever got like that I would seriously just kill myself. Simply existing isn't enough, life has to be lived to make it worthwhile. That whole NAAFA site is an embarrassment for the human race. You would think those overweight posters could learn more and help themselves better by a place like EF than a board like that.

That whole yeast thread reminds me of the movie Seven, when the guy suffocated in his spaghetti...

Ah the Fat Chronicles....
I knew there was something missing from the boards lately!

What I'm wondering, is how is a person who's very very active yet STILL fat somehow inspirational? It sends the message that, even if you ARE active you'll still be fat.

I think much more motivating would be the stories about morbidly obese people who cut down to normal weight.

Good lord

"It seems that every day there's some new report on one news or another demonizing fatties like me... reporting new efforts to stamp out obesity, or maybe just obese people? Today it was that most bullies are fat. It seems to me more likely that the VICTIMS of bullies are fat. I'm really worried that we're the new blacks in the deep south of the 50's, the new Jews in Hitler's Germany... and I don't like it! Is anyone doing anything of an activist nature to stop this trend?? I want to be on the front lines!!"

As LL alluded to, varying the weights and rep schemes will get you the best results. There's some evidence that suggests that sets in the range of 8-12 reps are the best for building muscle, but the studies ignored the effects of adaptation. You do need to mix it up a bit. I go through phases where I do sets of 5 reps at higher weight, phases where I go to failure (very taxing), and phases where I go with lighter weight for more reps.
But one of the best things is to progress the resistance AND reps in what's called "double progression." What you do is this: Pick a rep range that you want to stay in. Pick a weight that will allow you to do a number of reps toward the lower end of your selected range, and stay at that weight doing as many reps as you can. Over time, the number of reps you can do will increase. When you get to the upper end of your rep range, up the weight to where you're at the low end of your rep range again.

One BIG caveat: I'd be very cautious about taking movements like squats or deadlifts to failure -- the potential for injury is too great to go to total failure, as form will break down before you get to that point.

Also -- do some warm-up sets in each movement before going to your working weight. Example: When I'm doing squats, I'll start with a weight that is at most half of what I'll be doing for my main work sets. I do this to warm up the muscles that I'll be working, and to make sure my form is totally on track. I'll do two more sets, progressing in weight toward my work weight. Then I'll do three sets at my work weight.

Ah, the force is strong in this one...

That site is generally scary and depressing, but there is some hope here and there.

He condones going to failure on squats or deads. What are you talking aboot?

Neway yeah fat people suck. I mean, they're fat, that says it all right...

In 30 years working pharmaceutical cures for obesity will be abundant, so enjoy the insults while you can.

Yes, this is quite likely

Perhaps that will even create a situation in which becoming kind of fat is cool again... :(

yeah, NAAFA is a legit organization, believe it or not. they have their little meetings, press releases, parties, etc.

when this thread made news over there, it was like throwing a baseball at a hornets nest. the people there went BAT SHIT. in fact, in their rules it is now forbidden to link any content from EF anywhere on their site. you do, you get banned. no bullshit.

the naafa leaders were talking about how they were going to take me and EF to the mat for all these trumped up charges, such as harassment, copyright infringement, defamation, slander, libel, blah blah blah.

to be honest, i thought they were going to make some legal move. when they first posted it, i sent george an email asking if he had been contacted, but he said he didnt hear from them then (that was like the same day i read it on their site, emailed him, etc). i still wonder what, if anything, happened on spellwins end.
