The day after a cheat meal...

gymtime

I've been dieting strictly all week, and had a cheat meal last night. Baja Fresh burrito and cookies!!

So today, for damage control, do I lift or do cardio? Trying to cut now, so keep that in mind.

Any thoughts??

doesnt really matter-- for every day you cheat, you need 3 clean days to counteract it & get you back to where you were before you cheated.

Neither. You cheated - okay. No big deal. Just keep going with your regular diet and workout schedule. No such thing as "damage control".

I agree with MSBev and with working out like crazy after a cheat meal... sometimes I wonder if it really wuz worth that extra cookie...

but it's all in the mind right? if you've satisfied yourself that's enough. if somehow you can make yourself believe that much more that you're some sort of ridiculously powerful beast, or a lean cutting machine (or needside), your job is done.

Are you doing some form of a low-carb diet? If yes, consider it a refeed and don't worry about it. If no, shame on you, but just continue as normal. :p

I just started the cutting phase for my next BB show, March 20. For me the bottom line is burn more calories than you have taken in. If you cheat or plan to cheat, increase your cardio to make up for it. Weight training can be a good way to lose fat, but cardio is the the best way to get that heart rate up there where it needs to be for max calorie burning.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! Ended up doing an hour on the eliptical thingy at the gym.

I'm doing a moderate carb diet:

Oatmeal/protein powder in the am.

Grain bread (low GI) and chicken for lunch

Lean meat and vegs w/ about a quarter cup of brown rice late afternoon.

Lift around 7pm.

Post-workout shake: low carb MRP, maltodextrin, egg beaters, little bit of frozen fruit and a half cup of 1% milk.

Small bowl of meat and vegs around 10pm. In bed around 12:30.

What's your total caloric intake and protein grams out of curiousity? It can be approximate...

Something a lot of the guys around here talk about that maybe you should think of:

r-ala or Glucoroll-R (sp?) at the afstore? Reduce the problems with 'cheat' meals.

Very good idea. My local supp shop sells something they market as a "carb blocker." Is that essentially the same thing?

As for calories and protein grams, I'm afraid I don't know. All I know is that that's what I ate the last time I was cutting. I should probably get back on Fitday and get some numbers.

CBB - It may not seem like a lot, but it's five meals a day if you count the post workout shake. It's a good amount less than I'm accustomed to, but that's kinda the point right now. My diet has pretty much sucked since before Thanksgiving.

You really should measure quantities and count calories. Otherwise even the best diet is just a shot in the dark.

this is how i always looked at it, and the reason why i never cheat when dieting:D
