The Canuck's got their medals!!!

I didn't see the competition, but from what I've heard from people that know the sport better than me, the Canadians wre robbed. It's good to see that they got the medal they deserved and earned. It would have been sad to see someone spend their entire lives training for one event and have all that effort wasted because of some vote swapping scandal.

It's great they got the medals. But what makes this story strange (interesting) is that yesterday the IOC was up in arms calling out how "the competiton is over and judged. There will not be any change in the places after the fact."

Somebody ate some humble pie.

Just further proof that the Olympics have long since lost their original intent and purpose, becoming just another audio/visual aid for corporations worldwide.

Until they get Mixed Martial Arts competitions in there.... oh yeah!

Russia Won. Period, all those Canadian officials are whining and complaining. AND CHEATING.

Heck maybe I should get a gold medal for my whining and bitching too!!!

Ofcourse the judging wasnt fair, ocourse the judging sucked - because the other team has won.

Ofcourse there was a judging misconduct, the judges didnt all feel compelled to give canada 1st place because it didnt deserve first place.

Canadian definition of cheating = "When the other guys get higher places it must be cheating".

Damn these olympics are becoming some sort of a nightmare. This sucks! Why dont people just suck it up and forget? Canada did win pair skating since 1960 i beleive.

Now, they had a chance and cheated.... Who say cheating never prospers? Another gold metal for canada!!! YEH!!!

That is cool. They did a split screen on TV of the Russians and Canadians skating and it was so obvious who had the better performance.

The Russians stumbled and their jumps were nothing like the Canadian pair.

:rolly: :rolly: :rolly:

good im glad, that was totally ridiculous

I am pissed.
I looked at the scopres and it was clear cut. Russian judges gave Canada high marks yet Canada gave Russian team the lowest marks (and so did germany).

I can see how canadian judges cheated. They gave russian team the lowest marks, the marks the russian team didnt deserve. Canada just wanted to be first... But damn.. cheating is bad.

Canada gave the russia the WORST mark... ofcourse we see why.

Ok. I totally understand that.

But it is understandable to everyone that Russians had a harder routine. When your routine is harder obviousy it will be harder to make it flawless. And harder routine would obvioulsy give you a higher mark.

Plus canadian figure skater ran into the Russian guy and hurt him during the warm up. Perhaps that should be discusses.

Look at the scores. They were very accurate. Notice how Canadian Judge always give the russain team the lowest score... HINT HINT.

Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze, Russia
6, Benoit Lavoie, Canada 2 5.7 5.8 11.5

The average score was 11.6 . Canada gave the lowest, 11.5.

Is it me or do I smell something fishy? Oh I forgot. The judging is always unfair when you loose .

Well I am not 100% happy. They didnt deserve the medal yet with all the whining and crying they did get it.

It seems like this contest was rigged in favour of Canadians... Personally if i was that canadian skater guy, I would not accept the medal since I know I didnt won it....

btw, I am from canada.

Was the ENTIRE routine showed?

I mean on TV you can show anything. You can make ronnie coleman looks small.

You can show the best parts on one split screen and the worst parts of the other team on another split screen.

'Who had better performance" . Ask the judges, see the scores. Russian rasputins kicked some major booty in artistic stuff... !

SSAlexSS...the canadian skaters did not whine or bitch (have you actually been following the story??) they were actually quite gracious and sportsmanlike regarding the whole controversy. It was everyone else that was raising a rucus. The point the canadians skaters made was that the issue was not who skated better (due to subjectivity), but the fact that their was admitted collusion between the russian and french judges. This is the relevant issue. The french judge has already been sanctioned by the IOC for the incident.
The whole judging system needs to be revamped as this has been going on for a long time, not only in skating but other sports such as boxing.

SSAlexSS - Just in case you missed it the first time. And, I'm no Canuck... but I saw the damn show... fair is fair, and that French bitch fucked them. EDUCATE YOURSELF:

THE INTERNATIONAL SKATING UNION indefinitely suspended Marie-Reine Le Gougne, the French judge who says she was pressured by her own federation to give the Russian pair the gold.

“She acted in a way that was not adequate to guarantee both pairs equal condition,” ISU president Ottavio Cinquanta said. “We have declared misconduct.
“The investigation is not concluded, but we have got enough evidence to take the first decision.”
The highly unusual move allows Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze to keep their gold medal, which they narrowly won during Monday night’s free skate program.
The French judge told the ISU she had been “submitted to a certain pressure” from her federation and she has signed a statement about how she reached her vote, Cinquanta said“This pressure resulted in putting this judge in a condition not to give the gold medal” to the Canadians, Cinquanta said, refusing to give further details about her motivation for voting for the Russians.

Hmmm...the France lady in question gave two 5.8's?

So, everyone gave them a 5.8 or 5.9 and she supposedly 'cheated' them by giving a 5.8?

And if you watch two plays that are identical one after the other, isn't the first one going to be better no matter what?

Yeh. This thing has been blown out of a proportion. The scores were about the same for the judges meaning that it was what they have thought. Its not like french girl gave 6.0 while other s gave 5.1... No...

But nooo! Candians wanted to get h their medal no matter what!

Where is the sport where all you have to do is complain and get the gold?

Hey there should be a new olympic event called
"Best complainer wins Gold"
Canada would dominate it FOR EVER!

you are a bellhead.

When were the Canadian skaters complaining? I thought they were great sports about the whole thing..

Maybe this whole thing will change the way judging is looked at. I'm sure other stuff goes on to. It's not fair to any skater..

I think it was obvious the Canadians did a better program. Oh, and I was cheering for the Russian couple because the girl had made a come back from a serious injury. They just didn't do it though.. :fro:

First let me say you seem to have a problem with Canadians for some reason, not sure why?

Second, when the U.S. men's basketball team lost the gold in the 72 Olympics because of a bad call by the officials. They refused to even take the podium to accept their medals. Maybe we could teach the Canadians a thing or two about whining.

You're an idiot.

YOU DIDN'T EVEN SEE THE COMPETITION.

Alex,

I didn't watch the competition, but let me say that you, sir, are an idiot who would serve the world better from beneath the soil than anywhere else.

Dig a small hole in the ground, curl up into the fetal position, and have the nearest vagabond spear you and kick your bleeding body into the shallow grave.

Actually the French judge gave the Russian team a 5.9 instead of a 5.8 which she gave the Canadian team to push the Russian team ahead of the Canadians. To then make sure the Russian judge would help push her country's Ice Dance team ahead a notch as there is not a French judge to be involved in that portion of the competition and they are a hopeful in line to receive a medal.

As for the play stuff,

I guess you are not familiar with skating as a sport.

I envy your style.

I'll bring the cyanide.

Pillaging is out.

Savage floggings and public hangings are back in style.

I agree with bigpimp... Why the 2 gold medals for BOTH Canada and Russia. The Olympic commitee has no back bone to strip wrongly adwarded medals.

Canada has a gold and silver for the same event... why not award them the bronze also, EH?
