Brazilian police only take care of the rich and middle-class people, their properties and their areas. Kinda similar to how it is in the US, except more to the extreme. They really don't give a shit about the lowly ghetto trashy street areas. That's where it's real violent with hordes of homeless, druggie, transient people. Usually when something like 200 people have been killed last month, do they finally step up and do something.

That's why if you're a stupid tourist who accidentally wanders into these areas -- don't expect the cops to come in and help ya. Most likely you'll already be dead.

What are you talking about... Defense of others, with the use of deadly force is perfectly permissible in this situation. It is reasonable to believe that the child was in danger for its life, the police can use equal force quelsh this problem.

You see this often in the news when there is a bank-holdup. I am sure they tried to talk the dude out of it, but depending on the sitution, sometimes force is the way to go and they get a shrp-shooter to comnpelte the job.
