The Army

Chad716

New member
I am graduating from high school in May and am leaving to go to basic training in June. I'm overweight and need to lose some lbs pretty quick. I've been in the gym and lifting and doing cardio but not seeing any differences on the scale. The recruiter told me i need to get to at least 170 before i leave. I'm 197 now and I have a long way to go. Any advice on how to drops that weight before June?

Thanks
Chad

How much cardio and for how long, that damn recruiter was probably just throwing out a weight that sounded good to him don't worry about that 170 shit I was in the Army to. If I can ask why the Army? You will have a much better life in the Air Force or not going to the military at all.

hey bro,
once again why army. ya air force has better living conditions and what not. but marines would be a good way to go. and they're gettnig some good action right now over in the desert. well army is to. but i prefer the corp. navy isnt bad either if your looking into some of there special programs. but if your looking for just a easy going job, that pays the bills. air force would be good. but back to the loosing weight question. run run run. swimming is good to for cardio. run and keep a clean diet going. basic will take care of the rest.....well maybe. seems each year its getting to be more and more like a boy scout outing. my hats off to those who went through it years back. good luck bro. keep ur head down if you get to go over there.....oh and you said by june, so you have 10months to loose that weight...no problem..

watch out for those IEDs and suicide bombers. the airforce dont have them to worry about. the marines are just cannon fodder

IED's = improvised explosive devices for those non military. bang sticks = good fun :]
shit u cant tell if a dead dog or anything for that matters one or not
had a jearsy barrier that they made with one in it could even tell
blew the tire out from the right side and the hummv was still trucking

You'll get a good taste of running in Basic. Might as well get your miles per week up as high as you can.

Don't be dissing on the Marines, peeps. Us squids need gate guards, too.

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, schools been hectic and then hurricane katrina knocked out the power. Anyways, my diet...
morning - 3 egg whites and outmeal
lunch - peanut butter and jelly sandwhich and green beans
supper - grilled chicken salad
snacks - can of tuna or differents fruits
1 daily whey/soy protein shake

Another question for you army guys, the recruiters are beating around the bush, I want to fly blackhawk helicopters and I am undecided between the army national guard and the army reserves. I am wondering if I can even fly helicopters without being and active duty soldier. I may do active duty later, but for now I want to come home and go to LSU (GEAUX TIGERS!). If the helicopter pilot didnt work out i was gonna be a national guard mp. Since I want to be a state trooper later on in life i figured that that would be a good start.

They may not have aviation at your local national guard or reserve station. Plus to be a pilot you probably need good test scores and on top of that you eventually need to be an officer to fly anything in the Army. But you can fly as a warrant officer which doesn't take as long as being a normal officer. BURGER KING have it your way or don't join at all get everything you want mos, college money, bonus tell them what you want and that you won't sign until you get it. Air Force or no military is way better than the Army.

It all depends on whether your National Guard or Reserve unit has an opening for pilots. Your recruiter isn't going to help you on this because he needs people to sign their name and raise their right hand and he wants to do it the easiest way he can. So, look around and do your own research and go to him with what you want. I was in Warrant Officer Candidate School with several guys who were going to be pilots in the Guard and Reserve, but some of them had to wait a while for what they wanted. I think (but don't quote me on this) you can join, go to basic and drill with the unit while you are waiting to go to WOCS and Flight School. I'll research it and let you know.\

Also, don't listen to this bullshit about being a "regular" officer instead if a Warrant Officer. Warrant Officer is the best rank in the military.

you should start by adding more protein to your diet, 1 - 1.5 g per pound of bodyweight. Protein should be present in every meal, it is not either tuna or fruits. Other thing is that you need other sources of carbs like potatoes, rice, yams... and sure green veggies.

what are the fruits that you are consuming?

about your protein shake... is it whey with soy?

But warrant officers don't make as much money or get the same respect from what I've seen. I don't see how you figure its the best rank in the military.

No, we get MORE respect because everyone knows that we know our shit and that the unit can't operate without us. The Commander will come to the Chief mand ask his opinion before he asks a cheesedick LT or Captain.

Well that your opinion, "we get more respect" says who, "everyone knows that we know our shit" whos everyone. I don't see any warrant officers leading any wars . If they got more respect like you say, wouldn't you see warrant officers on the news instead of officers. There not on cnn, fox or whatever cause they don't get more respect or have more power, prestige or lead any wars,or make more money. How many warrant officers have schools named after them? Probably none.

actually there are some in fort benning GA thats named after a warrent officer , but the recruiter will tyr to get you to do some crap job they want you to do and they get bonuses for them ,so best bet would be keep pressureing your recruiter it will take a while cuz they are stubborn
and normaly they wont give in, but if you talk to another one at a differnt location and tell each other what you want and pit them aginst each other
what they will do is cave in cuz they still have to make quota , and you going to someone else makes it harder so alot of time they will break
break them , break them , break them ,

I havent been able to contact my recruiter lately, hes been in New Orleans I think, anyways peshmerga what exactly are you in the army? Not trying to be rude by asking but I was just wondering.

74 is a good score but I don't know what aviation is looking for or requiring.

I don't want or plan on ninjaing your thread Chad but I feel this to be the best spot to add my request, haha. I have about 1 more year I think in college after this one (5 total, should be 22 or 23 when I graduate). I have no idea what I want to do after college but I have been working the same job at a big law office in town for over 2 years now (so I have plenty of good reccommendations later). I am getting my degree in psychology but only because I hate school and psychology classes are just interesting enough to keep me in school. I am seriously considering becomming an officer in some military branch after college barring some big deal between now and then like a very serious relationship, etc.

Given the situation I explained above, can some of you guys posting in this thread who seem to have military experience send me a PM and give me your thoughts on my idea? After experiencing it would you do it again? With my work experience and having a college degree would then going into the military be a dumb move?

As for your original question Chad, you have 10 months... it is entirely possible. On top of that, they say 170 lbs but do you think they would turn away one of the guys on these boards who weighs say, 200 lbs, but is only 10% body fat? I am still in the process of dropping weight but due to a lot of experimentation so far, the one thing I can say legitimatly is diet and cardio. I prefer running at 6 AM before class. I keep my carb intake low but after a week of being sluggish halfway through the day I added some fast burning carbs into my lunch and everything has been fine.

Check out the height and weight standards online and figure out just where you need to be.(don't rely on the recuiter, take your career into you hands from the start) These guys are right, watch your diet and exercise and you will pass the standards in the military.(build your neck) As far as flight school, find the local unit that you want to fly in and get with them. If you are serious they will lead you in the right direction, if not you don't want to fly with them anyway.

Peshmerga says WO are the best? There is no best, it is get in where you fit in job. I have to say my enlisted job in SF is far better than his WO job in the Rangers but it is all opinion. As far as pay, nobody in the military gets rich until they get out. The military won't make you rich, it is just what you do with it that will.

Special forces eh? Thats awesome, but I'm way to scared for all of that stuff. No offense to recruiters or anything thing but from the help I've gotten from recruiters , they are just douche bags. He's been trying to get me to do this and that and not paying much attention to what I'm looking for in the military.

He's got a hard job to do, nobody wants it. Like I said though, find a unit online near you and that is the best source. If I'm running a unit and a good guy comes in and is interested than he's going to get help. Added to this you might get to see what some of the people in the unit are like, then maybe that will help in the decision.

SF is where a lot of the fun is! Most all of us love our job, I find myself saying it all the time.
