O.k., I'm gonna try and be objective here: I tried Crum's diet, and that is EXACTLY what happened with me. I did lose fat, but I probably lost just as much muscle too! Now that may be o.k. for some of the bigger guys on the board, but for a not-so-big guy like me, losing muscle is BAD. I've been on this ISO "diet" now for only 2 days, I already feel and look better. I'm sure Crum's diet works for a lot of guys, but I think for me personally, a more "balanced" diet definitely works better.

NJstacked, isn't this ISO diet basically a Body-for-Life type diet (or vice-versa)? Also, what do you think about Par Deus' leptin theories and refeeding on this type of a plan? What about cheat-free days? Appreciate your advice.
 
This ratio stuff has me confused. I was always under the impression that a 50/30/20 (P/C/F) split was lets say 200g protein, 120g carbs, and 80g of fat. Is that false, that you don't calculate it by number of grams but amount of calories?

Yesterday this is what I ate...

Calories - 1890
Protein - 192g (53%) - 770 cals - (40%)
Carbs - 80g (22%) - 320 cals - (17%)
Fat - 89g - (25%) - 800 cals (42%)

How are my ratios?

Nice post, fuck carbless diets - all they do is depress and piss people off. My x- girlfriend became a fucking wierdo because of the low carb craze. Her fucking life revolved around eating and all she did was think and talk about food... and why??? DEPRIVATION. When you can't have something you want it twice as bad. I know I do, and when eating clean and not eating certain foods, I usually end up blowing it in an all out gorge fest- feeling like shit still not satisfied and all hard work goes down the tubes. I truely think many poeple take their diets to extreme - including myself. But I do agree with NJ, and MOhauk, that balance is everything. This diet does allow you to eat more foods for a much more appealing variety, just don't eat in excess and stay below maintanence calories to shed the fat.

I weigh 190:
so I got 188gm protein and carbs
and 83gm of fat.

I tell you I'm scared of not eating at least a gm of protein per bodyweight. I haven't done that in years, I usually eat damn near 40 grams per meal >4 meals 2-3 shakes. When I wake up at night I pound a protein shake and add some flax or eat a couple bites of cottage cheese. I sometimes do this 2x a night...trying to keep constant aminos floating around in my body. I don't know how many calories a day I'm currenty consuming but I eat pretty clean. So it can't be that much. I'm going to figure it out then ask questions...lata

I tried the diet for 4 weeks and lost weight. Almost 10 pound to be exact. And my body fat decresed by 1-2% so 2% of 226 is like what? 4-5 pounds? So where id the other 5pounds come from? Muscle or glycogen?
Anyway I decided to stop that today. I am increasing ,carbs... up to 150-200g I feel better while eating that way. No restrictions with the GF. It sucks when I cant eat what she is eating. Steak and salade is fine but gets boring real quick. A nice potato or rice would be fine.
 
so your saying the diets no good...you lost alot of muscle? Well I can understand since on this diet your not even eating a gram of protein per body weight. I think that may be asking for catabolism. But I don't know, I'm just trying to experiment with diferent strategies to see what works best for getting and staying lean- while keeping muscle. I got great results with this diet at T-mag- can't remember which one it was though. You eat protein and carbs -minimal fat in early day meals and protein and fat- minimal carbs in evening meals...it worked good for me. I think I will go back to somthing like that. I think the main thing for people in bodybuilding trying to change their composition should stay just under maintanence calories- while keeping protein intake pretty high, but I'm no science expert- just kinda make sence.

I didnt say it wasnt good.. I did lose about 10lbs but only 4pound of fat. But those other 6pounds could just be water weight loass or muscle glycogen.

I'm 5'6" and weigh around 130. I took the given isocaloric formula and came up with @453 calories to drop weight with the numbers 113g protein /113 carbs /48g fat. Does this sound correct? I know im small and want to stay around the same size (just grow stronger) and most importantly stay healthy. I can atleast do pull-ups and squat my own weight. I've got older brothers to fend off . . .

Depends on how active you are and how quickly you want to lose fat, if at all. You could go 100-200 more total calories per day and probably still lose weight, assuming your metabolism isn't too slow. This will help you to continue to lose fat for a longer period of time.

Also, remember that your brain requires about the same amount of power as a bigger person's brain. So, a higher percentage of your calories are being consumed by your brain, and you should make sure you don't go below 1200 until you are on your last week to getting super ripped or something.

Remember to count ALL calorie sources, but don't get too pedantic with meal timing.
 
Just remember to keep lowering calories as you lose weight...it is the only way to keep losing....This diet takes it slow, but in 2 months 1lbs of fat is defintaly possible...
 
Ok thanks, thats really helpful to know about the 1200 calories and brain functioning. I had a clinically slow metabolism before, my doctor just gave me cytomel 3 weeks ago for it. So will it still drop if i dont make my calores perfect? I lift 3-4 times a week for an hour, do 1- 1 & 1/2 hr cardio 6 x and ballet 3 hrs week. I'd still like to lose fat. I'm not expecting over night results, i'd rathr be healthy where i can maintain. So what if i kept around 450 calories from each sorce and added the extra 100-200 cal , so 1360- 1500 a day? Wow though 450 calories from fat seems like an awful lot. ( i know mono-unsaturated right?)

this phenomenon is called metabolic stasis, which means, in layman's terms....ahhhh i quit, figure it out for yourself, genius

basically, your diet STILL sucks, since you need to down-regulate your total caloric intake. on the last few diets i have done, i found that i need to INCREASE the amount of food eaten. show me how you're sparing muscle while reducing calories from week to week!

I just decided to get off my high carb diet and start eating a blanced healthy diet. Summer is here and it sucks always trying to keep fat low 25g... its almost impossible to get that low!

I already feel better!!!!

Why did I ever leave...

The onlything I would change on this diet is to keep saturated fats low 10% while keeping the other fats higher. Also stay with whole grains...

Dan the man recommends high glycemic shake with as little fat as possible in his isocaloric.
 
i know an even better diet. eat doughnuts and drink whole milk for every meal, just stay under 20,000 calories a day, you'll get HUGE in no time at all. and who knows how big dan duchaine's dick is?

that would probably work similarly to the diet being proposed on this thread. the doughnuts wouldn't result in as much muscle loss as this diet, which came from dans outdateded underground bodyopus book. andyone who advocates this diet and doesn't know what the words leptin, and refeed are shouldn't be giving diet advice as far as im concerned. the isocaloric diet is a good diet, but it isn't the "1/3, 1/3. 1/3 diet" as it has been called on here. The ratios dont mean jack fucking shit.

Dan is good to jerk off too, but as far as his diet advice i dont really think any of it is revelant any more. it has already been discovered that ketosis isn't a muscle sparing state as dan said. and basically a 33/33/33 diet is worthless unless you have re-feeds. i think somone on this thread actually posted a link that states how the diet should be correctly done, but imo alot of the advice being given on this thread isn't good advice. a ckd diet would actually be better than just eating 33/33/33 every day. and you cant eat pizza and crap either as suggested.

Well If you are using this diet, Im sure most people will not eat donuts and other crap.

The original diet puts emphasis on lower carbs, higher fat comming from healthy sources. Lean proteins are also encouraged. As well as post workout nutrition.

Leptin+ refeeds have only been made popular or public just recently. I have never heard f it before Par Deus mentioned it opver the last few months.
This is what the weekends are for!!! When we B-B-Q's and buffet dinners.

This is actually a healthy diet when you think of it. Just dont thinkeating Pizza and whole milk is a meal cause it fits in the 33/33/33 meal plan.

We need to eat healthier fat, more fiber and complex carbs and lean protein.

Well that's cool. But keep in mind that this is a diet that keeps YOU sane. I for one thrive on the keto/Atkins type diet. Those keep me full, energetic and strong. So while you finally found what works for you others still have to search. So perhaps your 30/30/30 is a good place to start.

thats not true about the calorie intake for everyone. I know myself, I weight 185 right now and I'm dieting at 1700 cals per day. if I started bulking and ate even 2200 cals, I'd start putting on fat (along with muslce of course, but way too much fat). I'm one of those peolep where there's a fine line between just enough and too much.

If someone made a post pushing High Carb eating. There would be many posts saying it sucks.
If one were to push high protein keto diets people would also bash it,

People are never happy!

The bottom line as I have said many times... calories determine fat loss.

Just eat sensible and healthy. 33/33/33 is healthy and easy!

The bottom line of all of this is to eat lower calories then you burn. A good guideline is what was said in the first post.

Im sure your not a pro Athlete or bodybuilder but merely a guy looking to have big round full cut muscles right? Well this diet will give it to ya.
If your goal is to beat Ronnie Coleman then you will need to modify the diet so it works with steroids and insulin. So you will have to eat high arbs and all that crap.
Try it stick with it, just dont have pizza and bacon all day.

I'm in school from 8:00-3:30, so i can't eat much but school food.. Would it be ok not to eat during school? Then i work from 6-10 and cant eat there...

10:15

would those times be fine to eat at or should i try to change them around? Work different hours or something?

7:00 - 4 eggs, cup of oats, 30oz milk

12:00 (but this i cant choose, school food like chicken nuggets, milk, and other shitty things)

3:45 - 30 oz milk, chicken breast, brocolli

4:45 -Post workout (Grape juice and whey???)

5:30 - chicken breast, rice, brocolli

7:45 - nuts

10:15 - 30 oz milk w/ whey

Would that be good for a 1/3/1/3/1/3 diet?

Or what should i change? I'm not for sure about the %'s..

also a good rule of thumb is

to bulk BW X 15
To Cut BW X 10

To stay lean BW X 12
 
Quick questions

Hey NJStacked I wish I would have made it to temps this summer I only made it to Merge on richie rydels B-day and I thought that was sick, but I know it won't compare with temps. Now its time to work on looking good for factory!!!!! My questions are...

Will I lose BF and gain lean muslce by following this diet or do I have to choose between losing bf or gaining lean muscle?

Could I eat whatever the hell i want while on this as long as I don't go over the set grams per day?

Do you recommend taking anything along with this diet besides sauce(holding out till march)?

good plan for maintanace, but if one were to bulk or cut this diet would not be the one i would choose to go with.

overall, i'd say this diet is perfect unless you're either 250 pounds of lean muscle (competitor), or are tryina to shed off more than 10% bodyfat.

i stick with a similiar plan.
