Hey,
I'd just like to offer my thanks to all the mods, guys (and girls) of Elite Fitness Forums.
Before I say why - here's a bit about me.
Im male, 24 years old, good looking, 5'11 and live in S/E England.
I've never been big, fit maybe, underweight if anything however nothing to be ashamed of. 2006 was by far the worst period of my life.
In August I lost my long term girlfriend and childhood sweetheart in a car accident, this almost destroyed every last bit of motivation I had for life and respect for my own body. I almost shut down.
A month later I began to feel deep pain to the back of my lower neck. After several wrongful diagnosis by hospitals (common in England)
.... I was finally told I had ruptured a cervical disc between the C6/C7. Due to increased pressure on the nerve at this point, this also caused huge decay or wasting of the muscles in my upper body. I went through a period of huge weight loss, in just 4 weeks my weight dropped a total of 29 pounds.
On top of this I became very 'reliant' (I believe is the term) on the codiene, diazepam and other powerful painkiller's being readily (and legally) prescribed by my doctor. I was taking them like smarties to get through the day.
Prior to my operation, I weighed circa 124 pounds (5'11 tall!!) and was ashamed. My triceps especially were non existant and my upper arms beared resemblance to my wrists. I physically couldnt tricep-curl 2.5 pounds!!
I required surgery which had obvious risks and was unusual for somebody of my age. Something sparked deep inside me earlier this year. My operation was successful and went through at the end of March. I felt there was only one way to truely recover - I saw it as a new chance, a new beginning to live a life and respect my body which somebody very close to me didnt get the chance to.
I dont have the finance for a personal trainer .... especially after buying my supps. I'll be honest and say I considered roids, but after viewing advice on these boards I CHOSE not to. Just a better diet, a decent training plan and some healthy supplements. Nothing flash, just simple and the majority of info was taken from advice given to people on this site.
My physio discharged me a month ago after my first session, since the second week in April I have gained the best part of 20-24 pounds. It's early days, there is a visual improvement and I will continue in the same manner.
I'm happy and moving in a positive direction.
Just another 150 pounds to go LOL
Thank you all for taking the time to give helpful and lengthly advice to peoples questions. I have a thirst for life and a great attitude towards my body, after months of reading I feel I know what to do, what to take and how to do it.
Thanks,
xjuniorx
