I'm a 21 year old male 5'9 190 13% with a super stict diet who still caries above average body fat. I also train daily and fail to lose stubborn body fat who has recently been dealing with the following symptoms: fatigue, loss of strength (gym numbers have plummeted the last year), and below average sex drive, lack of concentration and decreased motivation for the last 2 years. I have noticed nothing from the Anti D wellbutrin the doc put me on so I had my T levels checked and total test was 247 (241-827 range). My other labs appear to be fine. Tsh was 2.45. Apprantly he thinks this is normal (test of 247) ( family practice doc) and felt did not feel it was an issue. Does this low level warrant further investigation or referral? I have Aetna for health insurance. Does anyone know if a referrel to an endo is first needed before visiting an endo so insurance will cover it? Thanks

Not sure. Best one to ask would the insurance company. Your levels are barely in the normal range so I would consider talking to someone that specializes in HRT. My GP said the same thing and my levels were similar to uses. They just don't have a clue about this stuff.

The problem is that most doctors go strictly "by what the book says" so if the book says that the average is between 247 and 821 then they are stuck on those numbers. They don't take into account many times that these "averages" are taken from men who may be anywhere from 20 to 80 years old.. and it doesn't take into account on how those on the lower end feel....

Another thing to consider is if you are one of those High Test guys...as I call them.. that is your normal level is in the upper range..lets say 1000 for references...your body becomes accustomed to the high test range..then for whatever reason your test levels drop to "only" 500... you feel like shit, lose your sex drive, etc..go see the doc and he says your test is "normal" Well..yeah its normal for a guy who is used to a 500 test level but not for a guy who is used to 1000 level...see my point?? They should also go by how you feel..When you find a Dr. that does...hang on to him. If your in the Midwest..you can always go see Swale in Michigan...
