The looks from girls was almost as impressive as the car's capabilities. That thing cradles you, growls around you, and does exactly what you want it to, when you want it to. I've never had a driving experience like that. I get back to the showroom, and the salesman says they have me approved, and the paperwork is drawn up. I won't spend that on a car... I can't justify it.

Aside from the fact that I may get fired for taking my boss skiing, it's all I've been thinking about. If you could, would you?

I saw a Maybach 62 at the supermarket today. With local plates. I had no idea there was anyone in this area with one of those. I can't think of any famous NBA stars or rappers from this area. You think boxer Jermaine Taylor has that kind of money yet?

It needed a trip to the detail shop too, the paint was a bit dirty and dull.

Get a low mile 2004 for under 60K. I never buy a new car. My last car had 12k miles on it, but I payed almost 30K less than sticker

I haven't driven one, but I've ridden in a Diablo that my mechanic was doing something to. From the inside, the exterior of the car seems much larger than it appears from the outside. For a fairly compact supercar (compact compared to, say, a Fleetwood Brougham...), it seems rather Exxon Valdez-like when you're in it. On the open road it's brilliant but in traffic navigation is a bitch because so much of the car is BEHIND you. You don't drive it through traffic so much as "herd" it.

A Ferrari, ANY Ferrari, is more user-friendly. Being affiliated with a major manufacturer gives them a leg up on experience with ergonomics.

But GAWD it's pretty in red!

I justified it by LOOKING at it. The mix of luxury and performance in one package is 2nd to none in BMW's.

A friend of mine that does the same thing I do has a new M3 that he put nothing down on, a $900K house that he a) put nothing down on, and b) got an interest only loan for more that the house is worth so he wouldn't have to pay closing costs. He has $200K in credit card debt, and a $500/ week coke habit. He does pretty well, but I don't think he has a spare dollar to his name. Just setting themselves up to fail, IMO.

Lucky you, they wont let you test drive one here cause... they're all sold til 2007... yes you heard it, the waiting list for Canada is 18 months. The new M6 ? 2006 and 2007 are all sold too.

Anyway, the STI. Brand new, it's in your price range, in your HP range, and it is hella fun to drive. It's fast and it's pretty stock, right off the lot without any mods. Mine made it through two snowy NY winters, and rallied through two muddy spring and summers.

M3 is RWD. 325i and 330i come AWD and RWD. Honestly, it aint that bad driving RWD with snow and shit. Get a good set of tires and learn.

Yes, ok- I hear ya. I learned - Grandpa wouldn't have it any other way - 2WD pickup. I made it through the winters fine with a set of snows. THe STI is great. It just gets bonus points for the AWD.

The 330Xi AWD version is geared more toward winter driving than all-out on-road performance. It isn't a BMW version of a WRC homologation special. For the other ten months out of the year, the Xi isn't as good as a regular 330i.

There really are alot of nicely engineered ones out there, but I still cannot get away from driving my M5 everyday, was driving 740, but I like the performance too much. I think 911 is next.....possibly M6 but they are telling me the release price on M6 is about $25k more then they originally quoted me when I ordered one.

Well that's basically it, 2 door M5. However there are variations such as the fenders and roof are made of carbon fiber to save weight. The floor boards are actually pressesed bulsa wood to save weight in places where strength is not as important. So it will be abit lighter, tighter, and more nimble, than it's longer wheel based cousin, technology is the same. I drove one, pretty neat when you shut off the stability control and nail it sideways, but all it showed me was the car was shorter and it would be easier to run from the cops in it vs. a 5 series, no need for that. If you dont have kids, or friends, go with the 6, you wont be upset, until the payment comes in.

Yes you can, they call that "Competition package". It's basically the CSL minus the engine upgrade.

It's a car. While very cool, it will lose its value very soon (unless never driven) and will be just like any other when it gets old.

Instead, invest in a solid chunk of gold or develope some decent property/real estate with that money. You'll continue to thank me decades from now.

Not now, but there may be soon. BMW have adopted a new naming convention, where sedans have odd numbers and 2-doors have even numbers. So 1-Series, 3-Series, 5-Series, and 7-series are the sedans (and wagons), and 2-Series, 4-Series, and 6-Series are the coupes and roadsters. 2-Series and 4-Series have not yet been introduced, and the 1-Series isn't available in North America yet.

I've heard some conflicting reports about whether or not they're going to stick to that new convention, lately some of the magazines have started referring to an upcoming M3 coupe, I dunno if they're just being sloppy or if they know something we don't.

This one is pre sold for full sticker. The salesman made sure he told us how fuggin cool people think they need to be. It's like a fake car from a movie, it's so good. The perfect balance of power and class. I'll be keeping my Subaru for a little while. I'd like to be debt free and have at least half down on the house I actually want to live in before I buy a god damn $100K toy. Stupid to see that I'm considering it.

Jackangel, for $30K you can buy the Impreza STi. I just totalled one, they're great. It's as fast as my friend's M3, is new and not a lease on said M3 that has been driven to hell, is good in shitty weather with the right tires, has 4 doors, and has cloth seats if you have a dog and don't want him to fuck your leather up.

I have never drove an m5 but I like driving my old ladys 525i. I can't believe the performance you can get out of that 6 banger. Plus it handles like a dream. So why not get the regular 5 series for around 45k then get gsxr 1000 for your speed thrill and then you will have 46k in the bank to party on. Just a suggestion. Chicks don't know the difference between an m5 and a regular 5 anyway and those little M5 plates can't cost that much from the dealer to stick on the back.

The M5/M6 ? No. Depends on your definition of production car and powerful. The SL/CL/S 65 AMG all have 605HP and more than 700lbs of torque. The "55 AMG" serie, while not having as much HP all do the 0-60 in 5 sec. or less. The Lambo Gallardo (more than 3000 cars built so far) is IMHO more powerful. You may also add the Corvette Z06 and the Viper. The M6 is a way to have an Aston Martin DB9 for cheaper (less luxury of course). Same weigth, same type of car, a bit faster but not the name.
