To be traced by your computer. they go by your isp right?

So If I would log onto someone elses internet account will that person get traced or does it trace back to my computer?

thanks

It all leads back to whatever PC you're on regardless of which account you're logged in under.

They would get your IP addy and then contact your ISP. Your ISP logs who's using which IP at what time.

There's ways to make it harder to trace you.

...

like freedom.net and anonymiser?

im using my computer at work that is connected to a network, can thy still trace which computer it came from?

I'm curious, what is it you are doing that you don't want to get traced for? :worried:

Sites like anonymizer will help. You could use a public proxy server just for surfing the internet also. It's easy to configure under IE and Netscape. You could setup your own proxy server and spoof your IP. You have to know what you're doing though and have the software. These will only help hide your IP from the sites you're surfing and they're very basic approach to doing it.

Basically, if you do something severe, it can and will most likely be traced back to the computer you used to do it. If not by IP than by a MAC address, which is hard coded into the NIC on the computer.

If you're concerned about your Network Administrator at work seeing where you're surfing, then you're shit out of luck. Unless they don't actively monitor the desktops/employees.

I guess the best bet is to use another computer.

Hi fellow mtl..lol

There're different ways to avoid tracing.

First public proxies: slow sometimes hard to connect but once on it they'll have their Ip's not yours. A software like Wingate should do the job. There's also material Proxies like those used by law enforcment which can change IP's into another but I dont think we could afford this.

Second a dynamic IP: Like Bell HSE ... your IP changes everytime you connect deconnect. If you wanna have some great time on IRC's or FTP's then do it.... but dont try hacking with this since they only need the IP plus the exact time to trace you.

Third spoofing: thats hard but let's make a short story. You take someone's identity and use it as a wall between you and the target. I have some infos on it but mostly in french.

Anyway dude PM if you want.......
