anyhow

I have a desktop which is hooked up to my wireless router from Verizon(fiber-optic cable)

anyhow, my buddy lent me his Laptop which he want 3 beans for, i looked on EBAY and the same computers were going for 499-$600 bucks lolol
should I buy it?
2gb HP pavilion? 1.86ghz windows XP?

anyhow, how do I get to my ip address on my desktop?
start button
then I'm lost
also advice on how to configure the laptop would be a help too

ill help you but i dont know what you want to do bro be more spcific

you want to configure the laptop to do what ? connect to your router? do you have a built in wireless or wireless card on it ? what is your router model number

what do you mean by get to your ip on your desktop? you want to know what is your ip number? your local computer ip on your router network? or your internet provider ip

I have a router from verizon that my cable providor has hooked up to my desktop
I figured I could feed off that connection with my laptop

First off your desktop is probably hooked to your router with cat5 cable not fiber optic.
Secondly you said your router was wireless. So you need to create a WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK w/TKIP or AES encryption (best security) network on your router and tell the laptop to connect to that network via SSID (network name) and the pre-shared key you put on the router


What is the model number of the router and I can find a walk through on how to do the above
 
I figured out a w/the d-link wireless network adaptor
found a connection through that for now
so I am posting from the laptop right now

I should be good to go
