swollen scrotum!

My scrotum and that area had been pretty itchy over the last few days, and yesterday evening it really swole up.

I'm certain it's not an STD.

It itches, and I seem to have hives on the interior of my theighs around that area. I took some benadryl to address the theighs, but my scrotum is still swollen and sort of itchy.

What can I do about this?

It's not the itch that is the problem, it's the swelling.

I'm not sure if there was a change to something that would cause an allergic reaction. I have downed a lot of benadryl since this started.

I fear it is a bacterial infection.

It can be an infection, but to rule out something else, go see your doc to make sure. Infectons will give a local temp increase, and reddness, plus swelling, also some fever spikes depending on the severity of it.
Don't delay too long, or you will suffer needlessly...if nothing else, the itching in THAT region alone would have me running to see my doc, it would drive me nutty.
Hope I helped, Brother.

So I went to the ER last night. There were a lot of really bad things it could have been (torsion resulting in lost fertility, testicular cancer), but it turned out to be what is probabably the least harmful and most easily treated: A fungal infection and possibly the very early onset of cellulitis. Treating it with an antibiotic, lamisil, and benadryl.

jock itch? that is a common fungal infection us guys get in that area. also called ringworm. the itchiness can drive you crazy but it is easily treatable with OTC treatments.

ringworm is the same fungus that causes atheltes foot. it actually sorta looks like rings, hence the name.

not to be argumentative, but why would you be using an antibiotic? does the doc think the fungal infection could lead to a bacterial infection?

and why do you need benadryl, an antihistamine for a fungal infection? i would think the doc would prescribe an antifungal. what is cellulitis?

I had cellulitis on my right leg about a month ago. I tore open a poison ivy rash and it got infected. If anyone's ever seen Requiem For A Dream, that's what my leg started to look like. Black. With the veins all red. I refused to go to the hospital for awhile until I couldn't walk too well. Never doing that again.

I didn't have jock itch. I had some dry skin there, but nothing like Ringworm.

This was just a general fungal infection/early cellulitis.

Tom - seriously, not treating cellulitis FAST can get you an amputation.
