Sounds simple and stupid but it's true. Here's proof (at least for me)...

The 4 times in my life when I've lost fat at a CRAZY pace:

1) When I did 3 months of boot camp... from dawn till dusk we constantly did PT and I was ALWAYS sweating. Lost 25 lbs.

2) When I did BFL a couple years ago. I would sweat like a pig every morning I did that 20-minute Aerobic Solution cardio workout, and the other days when I'd do the brief rest period, high intensity workouts too. I lost 10 lbs in 6 weeks.

3) When I did my DNP cycle last year. I was diaphoretic constantly for 12 days. Lost 7 lbs.

4) Now, I've been on NYC for 3 days, and every morning when I do cardio, my shorts are so drenched through with sweat that it seems like I jumped into a pool with them. VISIBLE fat loss in these 3 days.

There you have it folks. Cuts' key to fat loss... sweat.

Sweat is your bodies mechanism for cooling you down (at least one of them).....it is not directly involved in fat loss. What the four situations that you mentioned have in common is burning calories either through exercise or through increasing your metabolism (DNP)......the sweat is a consequence of either hard work or your body complaining because the DNP is causing your body temp to rise.

I don't think sweat and fat loss are related. Sweat is just fluid loss which is replaced and soon as you rehydrate yourself.

The reason you lost fat was that the exercise you were doing at boot camp was burning calories, not through losing sweat.

when you are sweating from working hard, you are burning calories. that is how it helps fat loss.

Back in HS wrestiling i dropped lots of water weight by sweating, one time 9 pounds in one day. It is just water. After i rehydrated i bounced right back in weight, and bodyfat was the same.

O.k. boys, I didn't want to do it, but you leave me no other choice but to pull out THE BIOCHEMISTRY BIG GUNS. It's late and I don't feel like sifting through my THICK Biochem textbook, but let me just summarize from memory the following:

The reaction involved in "fat loss" at the biochemical level is the breakdown of the Triacylglyecrol molecule to it's component glycerol + 3 fatty acids. These in turn are used to produce ATP energy through other reactions. All of these reactions release H20 molecules as intermediaries. The accumulation of these is what we perseve as sweat.

My point? For significant fat loss at a fast rate, one must sweat... the more, the better. later

You really don't understand the difference between correlation and causation do you??

No need to pull ou the "Biochemistry big guns".

What you said was simply wrong. Warm weather makes you sweat and does not result in fat loss. Cardio makes you sweat and does result in fat loss.

It's obviously not a biconditional statement. This is basic mathematics.

O.k. fucker. It's too early and I'm too busy now to get into a semantic argument with you but maybe if I'm in the mood I will later just for the hell of it.

I'm not a Biology expert but as I understand it....
correct me if I'm wrong please.

Imagine a Fat cell at a tiny balloon filled with watery fatty Jelly.
When you burn calories and sweat water comes out of the watery jelly in the fat cell along with some actual fat and it shrinks in size.
Therfore it seems you have lost a lot of fat.
When you hydrade back up, that water is replaced in the cells including fat cells.
You can never reduce the NUMBER of fat cells, just their size.

My Ph.D happens to be in biochemistry so if you want to argue biochem you came to the right place!!! If you insist upon pulling the'degree' card around here you wont win.

You really think that all of the water you lose comes from metabolic reactions?? If we could produce that much water by these means don't you think that we would have no need to drink water at all?? All we would have to do is oxidise food and we would be set to go.....but that doesn't quite work out does it.

Man, we are getting DEEEEEP here....

Talk about being BioChem Bitch Slapped !

By the way, I produce "Buckets O Sweat"
:spit: :jarswim:

Whilst you are paying attention to your text books (you will later find that text books tend to give an over-simplification of the truth), look up the bodies responses to overheating. You will find that sweating is there.....irrespective of the cause of overheating. I could put 20 layers of clothing on and sweat like a pig but I would not be burning more fuel than normal. So where does the sweat come from??

Second, I am not a Biochemisty "expert" by any means NOR do I want to be--so you made the mistake in life of getting a useless Biochem Ph.D--it doesn't impress me my friend. The only reason I studied the shit is b/c we're forced to in med school. You know what? I'm not gonna get into this with you--I'm too busy studying for my medical boards to waste time with a lab rat testicular feminization syndrome victim like you. later

Oh and the water molecules released by the process you describe are PRODUCTS not intermediaries. Water is made by the reaction.....not made and then turned into something else during the reaction.

I think you're taking the fact that you pulled out THE BIOCHEMISTRY BIG GUNS and they turned out to be pea shooters a little hard there mate. Look on the bright side though, it was pretty funny for the rest of us.

Gotta love sore losers :).......

Your response says it all my friend.

btw useless biochem degrees are what keeps you in a job....at least your potential future job. think about that.

btw your 'most muscular' shot.........BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Well, what's most important here Shirly, is that I have a nice long muscle b/w my legs, whereas you have a gaping hole.

Oh and for all you other cocksuckers out there, I was just joking about the "biochemisty big guns" thing... I took (and aced) the required biochem course in med school... and thankfully that was the beginning and the end for me with Biochemistry... thank God too or I may have ended up like our breasts-on-her-back androgenous friend here...

Cuts my man you can't take much disagreement can you? Don't take it so personally. BTW what if I told you that in your most muscular pose you look like you just crapped in your pants?

Possibly one of the worst defenses of your theory...to lack the courage of your convictions and resort to that of a 1st grader.

Dutch engaged you in a spirited debate...and this is all you can come up with.

Shirley: I KNEW you were going to comment on a cock not being a muscle and I suspected that you'd refute the definition of androgenous too lol...

"lack the courage of your convictions..." lol what a loser

Listen dude, I have better things to do than get in to a "spirited debate" or prove my "theories" here. I really couldn't care less what you or Shirley think. Here's a mature defense for you:

YOUR MOMMA!

"lack the courage of your convictions..." lol what a loser

//that would be the 'loser' who has the respect of anybody who know him......the loser who has helped at least one other board member back from serious injury. The loser who has probably forgotten more about how to lift BIG weights than we know between us. I could go on......

Listen dude, I have better things to do than get in to a "spirited debate" or prove my "theories" here.

//You do?? then why post em??? in returning to this board several times within the last few hours you have shown that you don't actually have better things to do.....you have just realised that your theory was a pile of tripe.

Oh yeah the heaters! We'd run three miles and then come inside and bike in front of the heaters until we we absolutley pouring sweat, then curl up in a ball in front of the heaters for 15 min and it was like pulling a sweat drain plug or something.

Ahh the good old days, may i never experience that again!

Correct mechanism on fat burning. Incorrect explanation on sweating. Sweat glands respond to nerves that respond to an area of the brain that monitors blood temperature and chemistry. Don't have my book on me, so I can't name that brain structure. Basically, body temp goes up, CNS contacts sweat glands, and glands start pumping sweat... which evaporates and in doing so, cools your hot ass.

You can sweat during a fever, or during whatever, and not neccesarily burn fat. You could be burning glycogen in ya liver, or whatever is in your belly... say like a Burrito Supreme.

I think its the hypothalamus......but don't quote me on that.

Yes, it is indeed the Hypothalamus that regulates your body's core temp and heat loss/preservation mechanisms. I agree wholeheartedly that that's what's happening when you sweat... your body is trying to cool itself down.

Now, I'd like to comment on my original post. Of course I wasn't trying to say that if as long as one is sweating, he is losing fat... I may not be the smartest guy out there, but even I know that the fat dude that sits in the Sauna for an hour (there's actually a guy at my gym that does this too) is not burning fat... he's just losing sub-q water. All I was saying is that for us--guys who lift weights and do cardio and diet--more sweating in this context does indeed reflect increased calories burned, increased BMR, and increased fat loss. I was totally joking about the "Biochemsitry Big Guns" thing... I don't know why y'all had to take it so seriously and start to try and disprove me at all costs. And the fact of the matter is, although I may indeed have been able to do some hardcore research into the matter and come up with some poignant rebuttles of my own, I just didn't think it was worth it B/C... without getting overly analytical about it, my original point "Sweating = Fat loss" is indeed true, as I'm sure you all would agree.

And the rest of the stuff about Imnotdutch/Shirley being a hemaphrodite lol... well I was just fucking around -- just like I do with my friends in real life. So, bro don't take it so seriously o.k.? Truce?

Oh yeah ImnotDutch... I know that hemaphrodite and transexual are two different things ;)...

Well that makes a whole lot more sense now.....

Truce.......sure. :)

Man Cuts! That rant cracked me up...

First - I'm just an MBA dick so Bio-Chem stuff is too far removed from my Marketing and Finance stuff to make sense :p

Second, I understood you original post at face value - Add enough intensity in you exercise to create a good sweat and you are definitely losing fat !

I suspect that the negative karma (which did not come from me.....I have the balls to sign my karma) came as a result of the name calling not your reasoning.

Read through your posts......the minute I disagreed with you, you resorted to name calling instead of putting your arguments forward. Many people take offence at that......

The original post inferred that sweating was necessary for fat loss (it isn't)....the following attempt at a biochem justification looked like an attempt to back this up. That is what people were arguing against.

I disagree .. he didn't infer it was necessary for fat loss.. rather that for HIM sweat while working out (or on DNP cycle) resulting in good fat loss.. Its all about intensity.. that was the inference I drew from the post.. I agree he did diverge down the Bio-Chem route as a way to backup his claim.. but to simple ol biz man like me its just a matter of intensity... Oh c'mon Imnotdutch... you know damn well (or you should know) that I was NOT posting a new friggin hypothesis on "The etiology of fat loss -- a Biochemical perspective." I was simply stating something that in it's basic form, EVERYBODY on this board (including you) would agree with... the more one sweats, the more cals he's burning, and the more fat he's burning. That's IT bro. Now sure, you could probably come up with lots of examples of where sweating doesn't equate to fat loss... fat guy in sauna, trauma patient going into hypovolemic shock, drug reactions, etc... but I know you all know what I meant. And the "biochem justification" thing was a friggin joke bro! Do you really think that if I were to start doing research into it and pulling out studies and papers to quote and defend my "theory" that I'd title it "BIOCHEMISTRY BIG GUNS" lol? After that, I was just roasting you to have some fun lol... I think you took it too seriously. I mean I didn't mind your (or others') insults at me lol-- I mean, I agree, my most-muscular shot does look a LITTLE gay and kind of like I shit in my pants lol!

Oh, and I never said that the negative Karma was from you... I figured that if you had sent it, you'd at least have the balls (or ovaries ;)) to put your handle with it... stay cool bro

I do take your point.....it was the inclusion of DNP that led me to think this as it has nothing to do with training. But its a spent argument now anyhow....:)

When you say that the water derived from breakdown of fuel is what we perceive as sweat then that is a hypothesis......the original post was easy to misinterpret.

As far as BIOCHEMISTRY BIG GUNS is concerned......I don't know you, and there are alot of people on this site who would use a sensationalist title like that to post 'research'.......so who knows if you would use that title.

I didn't take your 'roasting' seriously......I sat here laughing at you :). You see where you live this might be the norm....so its cool. But if you were to do it in many of the area that I have lived in somebody would rip you a new asshole. Is just a case of different things being the norm......no big deal. As for my responses.....I just like arguing.....it isn't serious. If I did take it seriously I woulda posted about 50 Billion references to show that your theory was wrong......

If I inferred that I tohught that the karma was from me.....that was wrong. I was just stating that it wasn't just for the record.
