Surgery sucks-- I'm home.

I got hacked opened yesterday to have the cyst taken out of my wrist. It wasn't much fun. I'm now sporting big iv bruises on the tops of my hands and a sexy incision on my left wrist.

They pushed all of the blood up from my fingertips up towards my shoulder to get as much blood as they could out of my arm-- then they put a tournicate up on my bicep. Then they flooded my arm with stuff to numb it. It was kind of nifty. Anyhow, in the process of pushing the blood out, they broke the cyst up a bunch and even though they had me open for just shy of an hour, there was little they could do for me. So now I'm in the same pain I was in before, plus surgical pain.

Now I have to wait for it to get big again (they said that there's almost no way it won't return) and get a more complicated surgery....likely later this summer. I'm not too excited. No lifting or anything else on this wrist for 6 weeks....then I have to get ready to do all of this again. I'm beyond bummed out about the whole situation. My drs felt awful. The only good part of it was when I was all stressed out pre-surgery and they put big shots of versed in my iv. That was heaven.

I was at my parents place last night but I'm home now. Planning on working tomorrow. Taking tylenol 3. Elevating and icing. Thanks for the prayers and support-- I'm okay, hurting and really disappointed that I have to do this again, but I'll be okay.

OH, hey a good cheer you up thing that you can do, it works for me no matter what, go buy a pint of "ben and jerry's caramel and fudge ice cream" and eat it all in one sitting. Seriously, and don't think about the calories!!!!! Now go do it!

Just try ta stay positive!!! I know it's tough fighting depression after any kind of surgery especially when it keeps you from training for an extended amount of time.

Reading all the fitness magazines and post here really helped me keep my mind on my goals as well as pushing me ta get well faster. :) I hope all goes well.

Still here..

I always get threatened with banishment..

Hasnt happened yet..

I think it has something to do with Cornholis sending me naked pistures of himself in orange tights and asking if he can carress me.

I like my boy. He's the best thing in the world. He makes me feel like a beloved princess and is so loving and supportive it's incredible.

I'll have to check out tri too....but I already have a beloved angel. Thanks for all your support honey. :bigkiss:

Raina,

No offense, but you are making fun of a man who could DIE on another board..

Should I send you some baked goods for your cyst problem?

Maybe on Trieida your true colors are finally showing:)

feeling frisky?

Raina, we don't really know each other, but I've had a similar experice with hand/wrist surgury. It's annoying as a motherfucker having to do everything one-handed (especially type) for a month, but I'm sure you'll do fine...just takes a little getting used to.

When I came out of the hospital, which my left hand all bandaged up, the only thing I thought was "Thank God that I jerk off right-handed." :D

hope your are feeling better soon sweetie! I had no idea! That's a huge bummer about having it done again, hopefully you will recover quickly and it won't be that bad.

pm if you get bored....I'm around you know my deal

heheh funny you mention versed... when my abdominal surgey was botched and had to be redone that was the only thing i looked forward to... man i have got to get some more of that stuff.

It was deleted... LMAO!!!

I can quote it for you along with the avatar..

 I didn't know what was going on over here when I posted that. I wasn't even online til this afternoon. Once I read your post and figured it out I thought it was inappropriate and I deleted it. It floors me that people can feed on created drama.

Were they called Ganglionic cysts? My brother had to have those removed from both his wrists. They were on back of each wrist right where it bends. I remember he couldnt close them for the pain before they were taken out. I hope you feel better soon.

Yes ganglion cysts. When you strain your wrist a lot you can start leaking the goo that lubes the wrist bones. Then it forms a cyst. Normally they form on top of the wrists and aren't a big deal to take out. Mine are on the palm-side of my hand on the tendon. So there is a lot of blood around the site. That's why they tried to push all that blood out-- next time we'll have to do it all differently.

Puc-- I agree. The versed is the only thing I'll look forward to on round 2.

:( sorry to hear that, but ure a tough one and you will be perfectly good, just look at it as a bump in the road :)

VDL- I can actually type pretty fast with one hand. Right now I'm using 2 because I just took pain pills and it's okay.

I worked all day. It was interesting because it was hard to do normal things with one hand. I was a tough cookie though and did fine. On a happy note, I was high as a kite from my pills and everyone teased me all day for having a "glassy" look in my eyes. Plus I was more subdued than usual. Everyone at the office frets when I'm not perky enough.

Planning on babying myself over the weekend while icing and elevating my hand. I shouldn't really be driving so I'll likely be home. I think I'm going to lay down for a smidge. Thank you all so much for your well-wishes....it means a lot to me. ;)

Glad to hear that you came through the first one ok. Hate to hear that you have to do it again! Sure hope you're feeling better! Hang in there....you've got a ton of support behind you.

Sounds like your surgeon is'nt to sure about what he is doing if he couldnt find the cyst after it broke. Volar ganglions are easy to find, especially if they are located near a tendon. We operate on people for ganglions all the time, and wether they break or are in tact when we open you up, we always find them. If it does come back, maybe you'll get lucky and it will not, I would definately go see another Dr. for a second opinion first. Seriously, this should not have happened. Your Dr. should have marked your wrist before anesthesia ever gave you your bier block. Drop me a line if you have any more questions, or post op problems.

Also Raina, they can still use the same kind of block next time as they did this time. It is called a BIER block. Sounds like Beer block. The reason they push the blood out of your hand is so they can inject the xylocaine into your arm, filling your veins, and in turn numbing your entire arm from the tourniquit down to your fingers. There should really be no reason they could'nt use the same kind of block the second time. If your Dr did it right the first time there would not be a second time.

It was totally visible pre surgery but for the weeks prior it varied greatly in size-- like from being 1/3 the size of a gold ball to being almost flat in 24 hours. It was WEIRD. It wasn't too big when I got this done. My wrist was marked. They cut right where it was. Right over the tendon. I'm going in to talk with him this week. He did this same procedure on my mom and it was all great. I didn't get to talk to him much afterwards because I was all sorts of screwed up. We shall see.

Just got home from doing an hour of cardio. Trying not to take my pain pills so I can drive.

When I had carpel tunnel surgery done on both wrists, the main thing that I learned was to not let the pain even start. The doctor told me to take my pain pills before it starts to hurt. I didn't listen after the first surgery, I did after the second.:)

Good luck to you, and I hope it doesn't hurt too much.

I like pain pills and they help me-- but they mess me up because I'm sensitive to meds....that doesn't mesh well with my life so I try not to take them. I'll tough it out as much as possible.
