Sudden increase in strength

So last night I was doing my chest day and started off with the flat bench press. For the past month or so I have been hovering around 155 to 160 lbs and I could not seem to make progress.

Last night I lifted 5 x 155 and felt good, went right to 5 x 165 and still felt ok, then lifted 3 x 170. breaking my previous PR by 10 lbs. Obviously my goal for next week is 5 x 170.

This recent gain has really jump started my motivation..but I can't help but wonder what the heck caused this????

II did the same thing today - put 25 on my bench and 20 on my squat. I know I could have done more too. I'm convinced it was a combo of weighted dips I recently threw in and the fact that my weight progression has been slower than the gains I have been making. I haven't got to failure yet and I think that's a good thing.

if you want to get even stronger, go to push up at the end of your chest work out and do a burn out set make make sure they're good quality push ups

That happens to me alot bro, especially on benchpress. Iv stayed on the same weight before for like 5 weeks them jumped up 20lbs or so

Thank god I made that increase..I totally needed a boost in my motivation!!

When I look back 8 months from when I started lifting for the first time in my 34 years, I was barely pushing 115 lbs!! My goal by my one year mark is to bench my weight (200).
