Suburbs or City Living

Which do you prefer and why? I currently live in the SUBURBS but im about to move to the city, was wondering what are the ups and downs of this decision. Ive had my share of troubles when i was younger and bodybuilding saved my life and honestly changed it for the better. The path i was taking, i would either be dead or in prison. So in the past 2 years of bodybuilding, i avoided all my old friends, but it seems like evrywhere i go in my neighborhood, someone knows me or i know them and i just rather move away and have a fresh start. so let's hear some of your opinion or experiences with this situation.

its a personal decision. but it sounds like you have some good reasons for wanting to move away from where you're at now. good luck with the move.

100% depends on what state/city you're talking about. suburbs in kansas are far different than suburbs of connecticut. i've lived in both and in various areas of the country. i love the city, but not for living. when I say city, I mean new york. i like my space and i like convenience. and i have zero patience. where i live now is perfect. 10 minutes from a "city" (small one) and bout 45 mins from a "big" city. the suburbs i am in are not kansas suburbs, so plenty of people and resources.

what color is your minivan?

I love city living....I now live out in the sticks. Don't get me wrong I enjoy living on several acres, but if I need milk or pick up dry cleaning, it is a road trip. I have lived in Chicago and Washington DC. One day I will move back. Living in the city, it was a walk down the street.

How are the suburbs of Kansas City different from the suburbs of connecticut?

Born in downtown Los Angeles, raised in the busiest part of West LA (near Century City/Westwood). Moved away at 18, never looked back. Now I need binuculars to see the house next door, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Like the old TV show "Green Acres"; "FARM LIVING is the place for me". I have my own gym that I built, my own motocross track (both a 1/2 mile nationals track and a Supercross/arena track right here in my own yard), and I can make as much noise anytime, shoot any kind of firearm anytime (legally!!!!!), and do whatever I want as long as the property tax is paid. All this, and I'm only a 1 hour drive to Hollywood, and 25 minutes to the best surfing spot at the Rincon, or 1 hour to Mt. High ski resort. NO Avon lady, NO Jehovah's witnesses leaning on the doorbell, and the best part: I can pin an envelope of money to the front door for the propane man, etc., and not worry about it. I don't even have keys to the house, and we leave all the car keys in the ignition so as not to lose them. Everyone has a gun, and there's been no crime here (except for murders of would-be thieves) in decades. If we see something wrong at a neighbor's house when they're out of town, we go in and fix it, and they do the same for us.

Country living is a whole different lifestyle, and it's the only one for my wife and me. Here's what I see out my kitchen window:

I can't stand the suburbs, I like midtown. For one thing the architecture is much better here, old 1895-1917 houses are a hell of a lot more attractive than ugly ranch houses or hideous McMansions that they're building these days. Also smaller lots means smaller lawns to mow.

sweet digs bro. Kudos to you.

I have lived in a (small) city all my life, for now I like to be able to walk to a corner store within ten minutes. I also like to walk to work.
But I could see myself living further away from downtown when I am older.
Each has benefits.

kx250rider/Charles: I'm jealous as hell that's a nice place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I was younger all I wanted to do was move to the heart of a busy city....now I live in a small town that is about 10 min from a medium city and I love it.

The city for me. Anything else is boring as fuck to me. I need to be around tons of people and I like to get out. If it took me like about 30 minutes just to go shopping for food, most likely not a place I'd live.

Thanks smurfy.

Anyways, i have decided to move to another town but not to the city. ive lived in the suburbs all my life and as much as i do enjoy going to the city. i think it would be hard for me to adapt.

I have lived in big and small cities in some pretty neat places. They all have their advantages.

For me IF - big IFs - you can afford the space, it is safe, and you work near by, living in the big city would be my favorite simply because I like access to the city life (mainly nice restaurants).

What is most important for my lifestyle right now is a 15 minute commute. If you work in the burbs, by all means live in them. If you work downtown and can't afford housing down there, look for a job in a small town. That is what I did.
