Suboxone - (Buprenorphine)

New member
Anyone ever gone to rehab/addiction program and are familiar with?

My sis is going through treatment and this is what they prescribed her. Doing a quick research it seems this stuff acts to block opiate cravings and withdrawals but can actually become addictive itself?

For those with first hand, can you explain your experience and whats your thoughts on this medication? Did it help or is this just another form of Pharm co.'s trying to leach $$$ out of good people and play the med frisbee game?

I've never had an opiate addiction, but have had a few friends throw their lives away doing it. Suboxone will help her get clean of oxys or whatever she was on, but people can and do get hooked on subs. She'll have to wean off it I'm sure. If she was doing those types of drugs you need to watch her to make sure she's taking the dose she needs to and not doubling up or selling them, or she'll be right back where she started.

It's a fairly safe drug with no real high effects

Takes those withdrawls away nicely, as long as their are no current acting opiates still in your system.
You take them when you haven't booted or snorted for at least 4-5hrs.
If you take Methadone you need to wait 36-48hrs before taking bupe

Tiz, I don't know why you won't come to the New Beginnings more often. Over the years I have read your posts to stuff, especially opiates, and it good bro material. We always welcome people who can shed light on subjects like this.

I wish you would drop by more often.

Really?? I was told to wait atleast 24 hours before taking subs after using???!! Same with percs, xanax, etc- 24 hrs. (same goes for taking the subs and then using).

Suboxone is far better than methadone in my opinion. I have seen people who struggle and who have taken both, and thus far the sub has been better than the methadone. The problem being is that you can still get high while on Methadone. Bupes make it more difficult for opioids to react when it's in the system.

The only downside to bupes (suboxone) is that some people can feel ill to their stomachs, have headaches, etc. Or you can be a total tool bag and take a few tabs and then later decide that you want to get high and end up not feeling the high and trying again, resulting in an overdose without even getting high!

Suboxone has an opiate antagonist mixed with an opiate. Basically as you increase the dose, more of the antangonist is released which blocks you from getting high. So taking a large dose of suboxone to get high can actually kick you into withdrawal.

Bad part is the $$$$. Meth is way cheaper than Sub.

we just sold our methadone clinic. i never agreed with the methadone
approach. i'm a member of AA and i was on methadone 25 yrs ago.
we went into the methadone biz about 5 yrs ago and i'm glad we're
out of it. it was profitable and for the most part, hands off for us.
my philosophical disagreement always nagged at me and i felt like i
was compromising my principles.

That is really cool that you had a methadone clinic, nothing like helping out!!
The clinics up here are far and few between and many communities think that having a methadone clinic near by will be trashy?! One of the most highest overdose to heroin cities nearby voted on putting one in as the chief's own son overdosed and they got voted NO, and this was in an old industrial building, wtf???

My theory is that if there were more clinics available there would be less addicts and less people breaking and entering and stealing to feed their addictions! Also take into effect that getting a rx of suboxone up here in MA is just crazy hard to do. Dr's are only allowed so many rx's per month on suboxone therefor it is in high demand. people have to travel to get their meds and sorry but many severe addicts don't have cars let alone jobs to pay the 300 up front and 150 a month for Rx's (that including ins).

yes we need clinics but not methadone. the narcotic antagonist are much
better alternatives many of the clinics are not practicing humane and
ethical medicine. for example i know a woman in chicago who is on 270 mg
a day!!!! there is never a reason to have someone on that much methadone.

Yep, same happens here. So if that woman misses one day of dosing she feels like shit..

The suboxone is far batter and I think clinics should switch over.

Methadone stays in your system for a looooong ass time
Hence why you should wait till you are in withdrawls when switching to Suboxone. Some say you really should wait 36-72 hrs and be in signifigant withdrawls before you make the jump from Methadone(I'm talking about someone who has been taking it for awhile)
Suboxone contain naloxone which is a blocker which can trigger MASSIVE withdrawls, puking etc.

read this, some vets suggest 8 or more days
switching from methadone to suboxone - Topix

Back in the day, there was a drug phenomenon called "T's and blues." It was a combination of Talwin (pentazocine) and PBZ. ( pyribenzamine) Talwin is a synthetic narcotic that is easy to obtain because it's a schedule IV drug and
PBZ was a common antihistamine. We did T'S and blues when it was dry and besides it was cheap as dirt. This little combo was like a 40$ bag of heron and it cost 8$ - 10$.

Needless to say, law enforcement caught on pretty quick. Next thing you know, Talwin tablets were formulated with Naloxone. No more T's and blues.

Yep, methadone has an incredibly long half life and its metabolites are present for up to a week after cessation. In Great Britain, the clinics administer heroin to heroin addicts. In America, we don't because we've demonized it
and we can't reintroduce it for any therapeutic use. To illustrate, diluidid is, mg per mg twice as strong as heroin and it's perfectly legal and is widely used. Heroin would be preferable to methadone, but we can't get past the
stigma.
