Stupid question- Garbage disposals

How many of you have these things?

i've never seen one here in Canada, but apparently they're quite popular in the US...

i'm curious as to why it is...

probably something to do with waste restriction laws and such...?

Couldn't live without it. I'd rather have a garbage disposal over a dishwasher. In fact I do since my stupid dishwasher is broken. Saves from picking out all the food and crummy gunk that gets caught on the drain. Also makes the garbage less smelly since you can throw a lot of food down there.

hehe... that's what the toilet is for...

:D
(just kidding... well to some extent... i flush stuff like left over soup and such that i don't really want to send down the drain...)

gosh, these things sound great!

question... where exactly does the garbage go?

(okay, call me naive, but i'm just curious...) does it tend up in the same sewage system as the toilet... or does it follow a different and unique path to it's ultimate demise wherever that may be?

Same here as in the fact I have never recall seeing one here.
The only thing I have seen close enough at waste shows I have attended/been part of is what they call vermicomposters. Basically its this contraption you keep in your backyard and put your wet type waste(leftover food waste) in it kinda like a garbage can/ weird BBQ like apparatus.
Well there a re worms who live in it and well eat the waste and turn it into mulch/soil(sorry cant remember only in 1st coffee)

I can go on and on but basically you would be surprised the kind of stuff they are recycling these days.
Lots still goes into landfills but not like 10-20 years ago thats for sure.

I have two in the house and one in the barn. Yeah I have a barn.

Where I live, it ends up in the same system. All used water goes to a waste water treatment center where it gets filtered. The sludge is irradiated and sold to farmers for fertilizer.
