Stupid book about protein

My mom brought home this book from work the other day and wanted me to read it. It's some book about a guy who was given 2 weeks to live cuz he had cancer and now it's been 20 yrs and he's still alive, so he wrote a book on dieting and being healthy. This moron states that more than 100 grams of protein is bad for you. He says you should have no more than 25 grams total each day and most of your meals should consist of fruits and vegetables because they have the "highest percentage of protein calories" whatever that means. What an idiot. doesn't he realize that one piece of chicken has more protein than taht in it??
 
Percent of calories from protein is not the same as total protein. So yes, veggies may have a high PERCENT of protein, but they are so low in calories that you'd have to eat a truckload of them to equal 1 hunk of meat.

Of course the book is silly, but keep this in mind. The longest living peoples on earth are the Hunzas of northern Pakistan. They thrive on a diet of predominantly apricots, whole grain flat bread, yogurt and veggies. So it maybe that it's their healthy, active lifestyle, or their genetics, or their diet (low protein) or a combo of the above three that keeps them almost free of degenerative diseases and cancers. But there's no doubt that a low protein diet is not BAD for them!! Of course they're not bodybuilders. If you want to be huge and ripped then you may have to sacrifice long term health to achieve it.
 
Sounds like a book in my mom's collection. Perhaps it is a Dr. Mcdougal(sp?) book? if not I suppose a book covers a similar philosophy. My mom probably has it, whatever the name.]

MS..very informative post. Low protein intake may be a contributing factor, but I am pretty sure that there is more it to than that because I use to eat a low protein diet (less than 40 grams a day) and I think it is the reason for for much of my bad health now..but unlike the group of people you mentioned in your post, I ate french fries,low fat donuts, and rice krispy treats for most of my meals thinking it was good for me since it was low protein and low fat. So, I think that keeping bad fats to minimum and also lowering processed food are perhaps more prominent reasons for their health.
