Stronger BJJ Guard

no we havn't done too much in the way of guard passes
we did some open guard passes or butterfly guard pass where we snatch thier ankles step back and pull them to us or their legs straight
I'd like to do someore Guardpasses
and smore Guardwork I'm not comfortable on my back yet

yeah ive realized that people who do striking really dont do as much work passing the guard.. and i am starting to see why.. you just dont need as many options or ways to pass if you have all the striking options at your disposal

without striking you better have tons of ways to pass

i meant while in someones guard.

meaning.. recently ive learned how effective a good striker can use those skills to pass guard. obviously you need good ground skills to use your striking skills.

always reminds me of tysons quote where he says "everyone has a plan until they get hit in the mouth"

yah that's a good point of his
probubly his best quote
I'd be comfortable enough striking from guard I wouldn't pass unless the guy was working to submit me from guard
if he was just trying to hold guard till we got stood up I'd just stay there and pound him

yep i agree with that..

i just made a post saying that whenever you are in someones guard you have to work to pass it and get out of there.. and i feel the exact opposite is also true

if you have someone in your guard you have to try to submit them, roll/sweep them or take there back. if not they will pass.

if you wait either because your tired or you are not sure what technique to go for a good fighter will take advantage of that and capitalize..

now i 'grapple' at a very fast pace due to the nature of my sport but still in general there is never a reason to just hang out when you are always only a second away from losing if you make a mistake.

good luck!

Another great way to pass the guard is to put your hands or elbows right under there chest and push down(they cant sit up) then put your right knee right at there... butt bone and pull back.

There legs will release and then you can use a method listed in this thread. Put your right knee on there left leg and take your left leg under your right to end up in a side mount.

As for making your guard stronger then best way to do that isnt by holding on tighter but using offense while in the guard, you can let the guard go if there punching you and put your knees infront of there gut, or work for some submissions if they see you going for submissions there gonna stop thinking about getting out of the guard and start working on stopping the submission.

i hardly ever get my guard passed because i am constantly attacking with chokes and armlocks and then mixing in sweeps.. i hardly ever let the guy keep himself on balance and set up a pass as soon as i think he might even try something i start a choke and then go for an arm then right back to something else if im not close to getting it.

right now endurance and speed are what is keeping people in my guard
