Strong painkillers...

NNN

New member
Im looking for advice/tips about painkillers..
I got something called Painful Restless Legs Syndrome, or thats what the doctors think it is (they're not 100% shure). Anyways, if I use the leg alot (walk or run), I get lots of pain later of the day, hence I take strong painkillers my doc prescribed to me for that.

Atm. I take Tramadol (brands: Tradolan/Nobligan), the problem is I get very weak and tired of it. I only take it when I really need it because of the side effects. Anyone can recommend other types I could try?
Tramadol is a opioid/opiate, simelar to morphine, but not as addictive and other side effects.

Other painkillers Ive tried, but that dont work; Salicylic acid (Aspirin, Kodimagnyl), ibuprofen, tried another one aswell but cant remember its name.

I havnt tried regular morphine, shoud I try that?
It would be nice to have a painkiller that can take the pains, but aswell can enhance my workout.
Refers to websites with good info is welcome too ;)

Speak out :)

you may want to ask your doctor about something called Ketorlac , its a strong NSAID with comparable strength to morphine except without the opiates..its a non narcotic anti inflammatory something or other .. just search NSAID

Cant find any Ketorolac products in tablet/oral form, only injectable form, in my country.
Ill talk with my doc, but he dont know so much, so he'll most likley just prescribe whatever I ask for :/

Heres some NSAID I found; naproxen, Phenylbutazon, Sulindac, Nabumeton
And COX- 2 inhibitors; Rofecoxib, Celecoxib

If anyone can recommend I try, or not try, of thoose medicines, then please say so ;)
Aswell other kinds.

Im not so afraid of addictions, Ive tried several types of medicines, painkillers, some illegal drugs and of course smoking and drikning.. without getting addictive.

Is there any bodybuilders that use morphine or other opioids/opiates? Doesnt seem to get any useful results by searching on google.

Ketoralac aka Toradol (non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drug aka NSAID)is great for orthopedic type pain, such as after knee replacement surgery or orthotrauma cases. A couple of problems with it is that it's injection only, can only be used for a few days and can promote bleeding, especially GI bleeding.

If I were you, I would demand to see a neurologist. This is neurogenic pain, meaning your sensory nerves are firing and relaying "pain" to your brain without there being a stimulus. This condition has no cure and they only treat the symptoms, the two biggies being pain and insomnia. Your symptoms will more than likely need to be treated for the rest of your life.

Don't attempt to self medicate bud. Go see a professional. There are tons of treatment options, it may just take time to see what works for you.

Here is a link to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke...they have a good write up on this syndrome.

Good luck bud.

Ive seen a neurologist, one of the best in the country, and he says he cant do anything for me.
My own doc got the painkillers for me that work, so guess that neurologist isnt so good then :p
Ive allso been to specialists at hospital, all they can do is suggest other drugs, that I have tried, without useful success (it whas non-painkillers, just drugs thats often used for this problem).

I guess not many budybuilders uses painkillers, but if there is some, they might have good knowledge on it, and aswell experience.

Morphine, codeine, hydrocodone, and oxycodone are all worth a try. Nothing wrong with trying different drugs til you hit upon one that works.

Hmmm....did the neurologist or any of the other people try you on anything like Elavil or Neurontin? These are used for neurgenic pain quite a bit with varying degrees of success. Any parkinsonian drugs? My guess with these is that they reduce the involunatary movements. Benzodiazepenes? Relaxation. You main also want to go to a pain clinic and seek their services if you already haven't. If you have and can't find an answer, I'd revisit a new neurologist. Take that "one of the best in the nation" crap with a grain of salt. He may be the best at one thing, but he/she may not have a clue on the best way to manage your problem.

If you run a dead end and get tired of popping pills and need frequent pain relief, ask your doctor about the Duregesic (Fentanyl) transdermal patch. Gives you a set amount of pain reliever per hour, they last three days, and cancer patients swear by them.

Good luck bud. Be an advocate for yourself and don't take that "we've tried everything" horsesh!t. They may have tried everything they are aware of but chances are there's treatment(s) that exist don't even know about.

**Edit**--Fentanyl is a narcotic btw...used in surgery most of the time, or during conscious sedation.

Toradol is not really perscribed orally anymore. Apparently it is extremely toxic on the liver. I use the I.M. form if I need to. It comes in 30 and 60mg dosages.

Thanks for your input.

Whas at the doc today, and Ive gotten morphine; Contalgin 5mg x25 tabs (12h release), wanted te lowest strenght to test with.
Aswell I got Gabapentin, my mom allso suggested that before.

Gabapentin is the effective drug in the brand Neurontin.
After a month, I can get prescriptions on some new, most likley an NSAID, and Norspan (Buprenorphin) or Durogesic (Fentanyl)... booth of em as patch, the first one is possible to get in weaker version and lasts 7 days

Strangly, I cant remember what I talked with the doc about codeine (and hydro/oxy -codine) :p
All else Donn1974 said Ive tried.. Ive been to a pain clinic, thoose who suggested most of the drugs. But might visit em again and talk about TENS machine.

More suggestions is welcome too :)
