strength training books

can anyone recomend any strength training books, preferably ones available from the uk, i wanted 'starting strength' but the shipping would take weeks and cost more than the book itself!

Starting Strength is definitely worth the wait. Even if you have to wait 6 weeks, it'll set you up for years to come. You could try to order it from here:

http://www.c-of-c.de/Bucher/strenght_and_conditioning/Starting_Strength/starting_strength.html

The shipping ought to be quicker because it's from Germany, but the site's in German too, so good luck with whatever you order :)

I've just ordered several books from elitefts (US based) as I just can't find anywhere in the UK for decent books. If you're interested, here's what I ordered:

Supertraining by Mel Siff
Science and Practice of Strength Training by Vladimir Zatsiorsky
Any Russian texts by Verkoshanksy
Periodization by Tudor Bompa

That should get you started in the right place.

Not real manly of me but I say go to the library and see what they got. You can check out as many books as you want and not spend a dime. Then if you find one you can't do with out you can buy it (from a book store) and know what you are getting. Maybe kind of obvious but some times people don't think about the library.

I just bought Starting Strength from amazon.com (USA) it took 2 weeks to get here (half the estimated time) and cost £23 total. If you have an account with amazon.co.uk all your details will also be on amazon.com.

I also contacted C-O-C in Germany but they dont have a direct way of paying, you need to send a bank transfer and it costs more 39euros roughly £30.
