strength endurance

weve been talking in my judo class about strength endurance compared to all out strength. I got to thinking. Would it be productive to fall some heavy sets with a 20 rep set to add some endurance to the muscles?

Depends on which type of muscles. For leg I would suggest sprinting for upper body I always like boxing and higher rep sets. but you need to look at the total time the muscle is being used, then figure out how long you should train the muscle to get it used to that stress

yeah sprinting is great for endurance for the legs. but me, i like to push a vehicle, and it kinda hits the upper body too.

thanks for the replys. IN judo, shoulders, arms and back are used a lot...i might add a 20 rep set at the end of my workout

I did 4 heavy sets of dumbell rows , then followed it up with 2 sets of 20........WOW. I think im going to really like this:)

good to hear try to make sure you are not supported by any machines or pads since in judo the objective is to snap one's opponent down in an instant. Bent rows and clean and jerk are very helpful. keep up the training and let us know how it is coming

I think its better to do low reps, but more sets with shoort rest periods rather than big 20 rep sets.
This is more applicable, short frequent bursts of muscle power.

Interesting CCJ....how short would u rest if you were going for muscle endurance as well as strength? I think I could add shorter rests with lower reps and also follow it up with 20 rep

Well muscle endurance and strnegth don't really go hand in hand in a sense:)

I'd say no more than 1 min. 3 rep sets etc

"Well muscle endurance and strnegth don't really go hand in hand in a sense"

Why wouldnt they? I see no reason why one couldnt get strength and endurance all in one?
