Strawberry snack chips

Hell if I know. The connection timed out, but I saw the post topic marker on the list, so I assumed that it was posted anyway. Let's try this one more time...

These are a sort of bite-sized, crunchy, homespun fruit roll-up. Great for kids' lunches, or as a snack for people who aren't watching their carb intake, but still want a treat without any artificial ingredients or refined sugar. You will need:

- Several pounds of strawberries, washed and hulled
- A food dehydrator

Wash and cut off the leafy tops of all of your berries. Proceed to slice them about 1/4" thick, and place as close together as possible on your food dehydrator. (If they're sliced any thicker, they take forever to dry, and turn brown and ugly in the process, and any thinner makes them fragile and annoyingly damn near impossible to get off the dehydrator.) Dry for 8-12 hours at 145 degrees, remove from the dehydrator, and eat or store. All dried fruit will keep for a very long time, but frankly, these always go extinct in some lucky bastard's mouth almost as soon as they're made - so I can't approximate their lifespan.

Strawberries while they're in season are amazingly cheap here ($2.29 for a pound and a half!), so I'll be making them until June. I love seasonal cooking!

I'd also like to try canning them sometime with a good wine or brandy to yield not only alcoholic, re-hydrated strawberries, but strawberry-infused liquor. One could even freeze the boozed strawberries and chuck them in a blender later for strawberry daquiris... :p
