Strange Bruises?!

Wills

New member
Yesterday I did my usual back day - weighted chins, barbell rows, dumbell rows, power cleans and some other isolation stuff - and when I was getting changed afterwards I noticed matching bruises near the bottom of my biceps. I can't think of any movement I did which involved going near my biceps with a weight/bench etc so I'm confused. Has anyone ever noticed this thing before? Any ideas what it could be?

The only thing I can think of was that I went a bit heavier than normal on the cleans, so maybe the pressure at the top of the motion (when the arm is fully bent) could have caused it... The bruises were only minor and quite small but it's the first time it's happened and I'm curious.

Oh, and before I wind anyone up... I do deads and erector/trap work on a different day: I find I can get the best back workout by splitting it in two over the week.

Cheers

Where they actually blue and sore like bruises? If not they could be stretch marks. But I doubt they would show up fast. Sometimes when I do rows my biceps and forearms rub against each other and it hurts.

Sometimes while im using AS, i get funny little yellow and blue bruises too out of no where. Expecially on my biceps and quads. Kinda funny.....

I wonder why?

I often get bruises I can't account for. I sometimes wonder whether my wife jabs me with things while I'm asleep. :)

To get two like that, though, is odd. Try to be aware of your next workout to see whether you can get some kind of clue as to what you might have done to cause them.

They were definately bruises: brown patches across the base of the bicep. They're still there but going down quickly. Wierd though!

I'll see if I get them next time, and I'll see if they're there before I do the cleans.

EDIT: I'm not on AS either (just food for me :p )

A bruise is caused when blood vessels are broken or damaged. Since you said that the bruise appears brown in colour, you are looking at too recent a time in your training for the actual cause.

Day:

1 - reddish colour due to the blood underneath
2 - blue or purple
6 - green
8 - yellowish / brown
14 - normal

If after 2-3 weeks the area is swollen or painful then you may need to see a physician as this is likely a sign of hematoma (deposit of blood) or heterotopic ossification (deposit of calcium).

To reduce the severity of bruising to an injured area, apply ice (wrapped in a towel) to the affected area and raise the area (if possible) higher than the level of the heart.

If you are using any medications which interfere with blood clotting such as anti-inflammatory type drugs then the bruising might be more severe.
