Strained bicep tendon near shoulder

So last week I was fuckin around and I tried to put up the 145's on db incline. Stupid haha. Anyway comin down it came down kinda wrong and my tendon that connects my bicep to my shoulder is a little strained.

2 days ago when I was doing chest i did bb bench and thats what hurt it the most. I could still put up weight but i could tell i was babying it. my strength went down a little on bb flat bench.

but then i got to db incline press and my strength went a little up, because it didnt hurt. i was making sure my arms were not going below parallel (elbow to shoulder)

So nothing else makes it hurt besides bb flat bench. Should i completely let my chest heal and go super light or should i replace bb flat bench with something else? i dont wanna give up my chest day but I would rather let myself heal. FUCKK

I've been struggling with the same thing for a month. I've switched to DBs and keeping inclines lighter. That's what really bothers mine. Some days it seems better some worse. I've also been using Needtos skeletal balm on it. That helps me get through the workouts. I've been massaging the tendon a lot too and that seems to help.

i dont understand how massagine the tenson would help it, since its partially torn. I think you should ice it for 10 minutes, off an hour and repeat, just my advice anyway. how is needtos skeletal balm?

is there anyway to get around this without having to completely rest it?

been dealing with this for about 3 months...i've went to db's on flat, besides that i just put up with it...it sux

How do you know it's torn? Strained and torn are two totally different things. Mines not torn for sure. What I do is massage across fiber deep. It hurts to do but it makes a difference. Both my massage therapist and my chiropractor have recommended it in the past and it's always helped. I do ice it every night also especially on lifting days.

Needtos stuff "seems" to help. It's not an instant "awe that feels better" type of thing but using it regularly seems to help. According to needto it help promote blood flow into the area thus expediting healing. Think I got that right needto....correct me if I'm wrong on that. Either way I say it helps. Plus it doesnt reek of "Old Man" so you won't mind putting it on during the day. LOL

I ice at 20 min intervals too. That's what I've always done for my back. Why 10?

I tore my bicep under the shoulder last Summer I think it was. Proximal bicep tear. Those basically heal by themselves IF you give it the proper rest and intelligent training!

If you are still doing something every week that is bothering it...may the Force Be With you because you had better pray for free medical insurance to pass soon, you are going to need surgery soon.

It heals itself pretty fast. You need a week away from anything that even remotely bothers it, then work lightly around it, keep it wrapped, ibuprofen, ice, heat, LIGHT stretching, elbow sleeve moved up on the bicep, LOTS of rotator cuff work daily, high rep bicep curls (Im talking in the 75-100+ rep range), light shoulder laterals, and then do some board presses on bench press for a few weeks as you start coming back.

Just rest it bro. I strained mine down near the elbow this week just go easy and if you have elbow sleeves put em on your bi. I was training yesterday for strongman and just put both my sleeves on that bicep and it was fine and i was doing some good weight on farmers and yoke.

lol EM i know!

Well dips dont even remotely bother it, any pressing movement does tho. So do i completely take chest day off? Maybe add some pushups in IF they dont hurt.

Have you tried machine presses at all? I'm in the same boat so I'm trying to work something out. I'm wondering if a smith press would be o.k. since it takes the stabilizers pretty much out of the movement.

Why don't you try it and let me know?
You're younger than me you'll heal easier!

Lol!

So i did chest last night

Flat bb press - NO
incline db press - NO
any type of flyes - no
machine press - I got a new PR but thats probably because i didnt wear myself out on anything first, AND it hurt a little bit. Not a lot. Actually the incline machine didnt hurt at all, the flat HS machine press did though. pushups - NO

Haha. O.K. Thanks for the research.

Did you try cable flys at all? I did some friday and that didn't bother mine. DB's = NO NO for sure

I'm going to try Smith Presses and Inclines this Friday. We'll see how that goes...

I couldnt do smiths when i tried...the more incline something is the better for me.

I have not tried cables! I will tho thanks for that

inactivity is the worst thing for most injuries

I would say work the area but go very light, focus on blood flow and strict form and DONT go to failure for the next weeks

Oh..got it, so heres what I plan on doing

1) work the area LIGHT (how many reps?)
2) Ice area when sitting around, 10minutes on, 1 hour off, repeat
3) Ibuprofen? Protolytic enzymes? any other supps?

1~ 10-20 reps; ALWAYS stop short of failure with about 2-3 reps left in your tank,
as you DO NOT want to challenge the structural integrity of the affected area, you only want to promote nutrient and blood floor for healing, and also to preserve general strength.

2) I would say do that at home when your winding down you day for 15 minutes....

3) Ibuprofen works great ONLY in moderation and only for a handful of days . I favor ONLY using 1 200 mg tab at night before bed, NEVER before a workout . Stop using it once the area heals

been dealing with this for about 3 months...i've went to db's on flat, besides that i just put up with it...it sux

I lower bicep thingie took me out for a year

PLEASE head my advice above and back off like I should have done years ago

oh also guys do all pulling muscles one day, and pushing another day. and legs and abs another day

.......makes over training less likely

Yes. It also helps in other ways too. Glad its helping bro.

Thanks for the input Omega. Will heed that advice for sure. One thing I learned with my back problems was not to do NOTHING. Using it definitely promotes the healing process.

My pain seems to have shifted away from the bicep tendon and more into the shoulder the last 2 days. I'm not sure what it is at this point but I'm planning on doing some light rotater cuff exercises for a few weeks and see if that helps. Any suggestions?
