maybe this sounds crazy, and way off topic on here, but i am desperate. my now 12 year old dog lives with my parents as i have lived in a different state for 2 years and am not able to have her with me. she is a pit bull, very sweet dog, and has always been very muscular and athletic. i have been "home" for 2 days now and can't help but to cry like a little bitch when i see how far downhill she has gone in the last year. at 11 she was still very athletic and in great shape. now at 12 she has had an arthritis flare up, lost almost all of her muscle, and has trouble walking. she still wants to play but it is just very difficult for her and it is tearing me up. i am wondering if steriods (she has been getting cortizone injections), from the vet, would be something good to try? the vet says she would need to be more active for them to work at all, and from what i know she will need to eat good also, which she has not been doing. i am thinking that maybe we can get her on them, and keep her as active as possible (which is not very) in hopes of building some muscle back up to help support her joints. at her age, and current health, long term effects are not much of a concern. anyways, i am really hoping that someone who reads this will have some good insight on this and can give me some good advice. i can't stand to see her getting all "muhamad ali". i would rather her go out happy and with a tennis ball in her mouth, than to just rot away. thanks in advance for any help.

I hope your kidding.....I have an idea why don't you ask her and see if she answers you. DO NOT give your pooch juice, that is dumb. Maybe just as dumb as me for answering this thread.

Don't give your dog steroids. I put my dog down last year, and it was one of the saddest things ever. But i hated watching him suffer. sorry to say this, but maybe its best to say good bye

thanks asshole.....actually i am being very serious. if you had any reading comprehension skills you might be able to understand that everything will be through the vet. i have no doubt in my mind, however, that there are many people on here that are probally much more knowledgable on steriods, even as it pertains to animals, than any vet. with that being said go fuck yourself. this is something very serious to me and if you think it is stupid then keep your fucking opinion to yourself.

I don't see what is dumb about giving the dog drugs. Hell, we use them just to support out ego and vanity. At least the dog could benefit from something such as nandrolone to prevent muscle wasting and help keep the joints lubricated. I have a friend that gives his Pits roids, but most of them are used for fighting. So, the types used and doses are probably different because of the different desired effect. You might consider 1-2 mg every week or two of nandrolone.

i understand that this may be, and eventually will have to happen. with that being said, i don't think she is quite "there" yet. how old and what was wrong with your dog?

You should be careful if you do. Once, when we were kids, we put my friends Doberman Pinscher on weight gainer. The dog got so muscular that it looked like a Rotweiller with a tiny head. One day it ups and dies. The vet said that the weight gainer, which can't be processed very well by dogs, gave the dog a heart attack. I guess weight gainer isn't the same as AAS, but I think the same rule may apply.

I meant 1-2 mg / lb of bodyweight not 1-2 mg total.

I have a killer migraine, so I don't know if I'm making much sense.

DUDE- iam so sorry for your dilemna, i had to put my lab to sleep that i had since the eighth grade it WAS the saddest thing i ever endured, while i was at the vet i asked what about givivng the dog AAS, she said it wouldnt have hurt at that point but my old man was having issues so we decided to put him down he was in severe pain and draged his back legs, #1 DEFINATELY DO IT UNDER THE VETS CARE OR GUIDANCE, if the vet said no than i would listen but when it gets to the point of putting her down i would give it a shot with a little nandrolone little test and some winny like a 1ml cocktail of all these at that point its ur last option WITH A LITTLE LUCK U MAY HAVE MADE A MIRACLE i feel ur pain bro best of luck to u oh and i think on some of the vet gear it gives indications for horses and dogs i know i have seen this but im not sure waht brand of gear
