Steroids, kids, and CPS

Curious to see if anyone knows or has had experience with CPS investigating a suspected steroid user who lives with kids. My GF refuses to live with me if I'm going to use steroids because she believes I'm putting her and her son in danger. I can't say she's wrong. Just wondered if anyone else has had to deal with this issue.

I used to do investigations for CPS, among other things, for about 14 years. I'm in a different country but never came across an investigation for steroid use in a home. What it always comes down to is assessing the risk to the child within the context of the law. So, my take would be the same as if you were a pot head or drinking excessively, gambling etc...if the child is exposed to it, has access to it and so on, it's an issue. If there are secondary issues related to it ie: anger outbursts from you, needles laying around, financial issues resulting in the child's needs not being met...that could also be an issue.

But....is it something I would take someone's child away for? No. It's a talk with the parent about common sense, discretion and all that type of thing. Technically, it's illegal and commonly misunderstood, so I suppose that could be an issue for someone but personally, I think if you are discreet and your use does not impact the child in any direct or indirect way, it shouldn't be a huge issue, at least from a CPS perspective. If it's not impacting the child, there should be no need for anyone to report it. If a kid goes to school and talks about his new step dad shooting himself up....doesn't look so good. You get the idea. :)

There are way bigger fish to fry when it comes to child abuse, imo, and most gov'ts don't have the manpower or the resources to deal with something small like this. I'd say if you ever got reported, you'd have a better chance at being arrested then at losing your child.
