Start working as a bouncer tonight

Dude ive been boucing 4 three years its easy job man unless u are working in some Hiphop club....just keep it cool dont be a prick

Good Luck and remember dont be a HERO! Jus get them out of the bar or club and let them settle it from there. I bounce too, its great money for the work when you are in a good place.

Haha thanks guys. I'm leaving now to help go set up for tonight 3-5, then i go back in at 7 till whenever. Its a comedy club for the first 2-3 hours then switches over to dancing ect.

you guys are making bouncing sound like being some rock star, do girls really like bouncers that much???

I was a Doorman for almost 5 years at several of the hottest clubs in my area. I was fun but eventually you get tired of the same old shit. Some tips to live by are: Always try to resolve a confrontation verbally first. Do not be abrasive when doing so. Empathise with the patron and try to understand what the root of the problem is. Use physical means as a last result (trust me doorman get charged for assult as well, you are not immune). If you need to take this route then learn some standing non-striking moves. The hammer lock or chicken-wing are two to start with. If you need to strike do not use your fist. Open hand or elbows work best especially if he starts crying to the cops that you beat his ass. You deny hitting him always and show your hands and knuckles as proof (hehehe). Don't drink too much on the job as it will affect your ability to reason. Don't let your girlfriend come down unannounced as this will cause a whole host of new problems. All in all have fun. You don't need to be a tuff guy all the time. But when the action starts make sure you finish it!

Phreaky, Great advice for him bro, Also If you do have to remove someone use resonalbe force, and remember stop it at the door, what I mean is don't take it outside. I live in Florida and in most cases once they are outside the building its a matter for the cops. Now some people don't learn and once outside if he comes bolting back in then you can put it to him. It is also good to have some paper and a box of pens on you in case things get wild you can have some witnesses write out what happen in order to protect your own ass.

Freaky and Superfrk offered some great advice. I bounce as well. I'm leaving for my job in 3hrs. Do not let your girl come down. There will be trouble in terms of your conflict of interest when guys try to grab her. And there will be girls all over your jock everyweek and you will not want her to see that. YES, girls do love bouncers. I have my pick of them every week. The words "I FUCKED this BOUNCER last night" sounds cool for them the same way "I FUCKED THIS STRIPPER last night" sounds cool for us.:fro:

Can't wait bros! I'm home now obviously, just got back from getting things set up. I'm going to be leavin in a little bit, wish me luck!

I hope that your a single man and can take advantage of the job. I've been bouncing for three years and love it. You'll meet lots and lots of ass ( girls) and they'll come to you and make you feel like a god. Another perk of the job is that you can realease some "rage" if you you get a chance and not go to jail. You should love the job if your in a cool club. What kind of club is it anyway?

Bounced for 7 years. Lots of fun also can be very boring. You got some got advice on this board, and remember! DON'T STRIKE ANYONE. If someone pisses you of there are a million ways to cause them pain without leaving a mark. If a cop sees blood, even if the guy's so drunk he doesn't make any sense, you might find yourself in trouble.

I bounce at an upscale strip club and we still have our share of problems but I do anything I can to resolve issues without fighting.

Even if you win a confrontation (and you better if you like your job) you still get hurt. (broken hand, knuckles, bruises, sprains, etc)

Enjoy it bro....you'll be a chick magnet just because you wear the shirt !

Yup its very cool too when u are a team of bouncers I found it alot easier and the camadery is the best....u feel like a group like u are part of something

You will have fun. I've bounced for about a year. One tip, whenever someone is getting out of line and you need to kick them out, always ask one of their friends if they want to handle the problem. This shows them respect and most of the time they will take their buddy out of the club. Most guys want to be on good terms with bouncers.

Hey guys, damn i'm tired. Finished up around 2:30. It wasn't very crowded. A decent crowd turned out for the comedy show, after that it thinned out alot. A few nice looking women, there were not any problems. After the comedy show i spent the rest of the night watching the door. I go back at 3:30 to set up again. It should be more crowded tonight. Oh yea my goodies came in today :D

i have wanted this job for the longest time but what are the chances of a 5'7 166lbs guy getting a job as one

You need to know all the legal ends that pertain to your job because those club owners will leave you hanging and only you will be in the cell and getting sued not them.I hope you are a cool, level headed person because the things you will see and have to deal with are going to blow your mind. BEWARE, many people carry weapons and if you disrespect the wrong one it is a good bet they may come back and shoot your ass so watch your back !! Remember revenge is best served cold and it would be all to easy for some person to plan your demise so get eyes in the back of your head because you will need them!! be nice......

well at least your first night was a good one..LOL have fun guy!! RADAR

Yeah, what is the average sized bouncer? Say in 2 years Im wear I wanna be (6'1 and bout 240 under 10%) will I be big enough? Im 6'1 222 right now with about 17% bf. Whats the average age to start out as well?

That's tough. I've worked clubs where I've been the biggest and where I've been the smallest.

I think a lot of it has to do with "the look". You definately have to be in shape and look strong, intimidating, but nice too. Hard to describe. It's like, be nice, say "have a good time", and at the same time, let them feel that if anyone fucks up....well.....

Also, some clubs I've worked at have had a reputation of keeping things in order. That when someone fucks up, it's resolved very swiftly, and if they fight back, they end up bloody and in the rear seat of a cop car.

Just got in, kinda uneventful night, met a few women..but jesus christ my back is killing me. I have a herniated disc and i'm not use to standing for that long of time. It kinda bothered me last night, nothing bad..but tonight after 2 hours it was hurting like a bitch. I never thought about that bothering me, now i'm wondering about it. What sucks is if it keeps bothering me this bad i may have to quit and get something else..ugh.

Ive got scoliosis and If Im on my feet for a long period of time it will hurt like a bitch every once in awhile, if I make sure to lean on something or put my back against a wall it doesn't happen

What helps for me is to put one foot on a step or chair or something while I'm standing. Just a suggestion.

Don't set your career goals too high or you may end up disappointed.

I agree 100% with what Phreaky said. I did 7 years myself at clubs all over the UK. Including 'the' most famous club. I now instruct street defence sessions for a goup of lads that still work on the doors but packed bouncing in 2 years ago. My day job pays better wages now so no need to risk my neck anymore. I'd do it again if I had to though. You will learn so much on the doors. It can be boring at times (like stood outside an all nighter as the sun comes up, freezing your balls off, sober as a judge!) but you should make some good contacts/friends and have plenty of laughs as well.

Stick with the established doormen and make sure your team is a 'team' and your back is fully covered. Likewise, allways be prepared to back your man up, whatever the situation. That is the only way to earn respect. Don't let the drink get to you. I have seen many a good doorman start out looking good and into their training fuck up through drinking too much and getting hooked. Oh yeah 1 last thing. Treat the girls that flirt with you as hos, have fun with them and fuck them but don't get attached. Having a relationship with a girl who comes in your club every weekend can become a real pain in the arse and if you are like me and into your training you will not really be looking to settle with girls like that anyway.

I'd suggest trying to get hold of some of the books like Geoff Thompson's who has written on door work and real life defence.
