Start working as a bouncer tonight

Yeah, what is the average sized bouncer? Say in 2 years Im wear I wanna be (6'1 and bout 240 under 10%) will I be big enough? Im 6'1 222 right now with about 17% bf. Whats the average age to start out as well?

That's tough. I've worked clubs where I've been the biggest and where I've been the smallest.

I think a lot of it has to do with "the look". You definately have to be in shape and look strong, intimidating, but nice too. Hard to describe. It's like, be nice, say "have a good time", and at the same time, let them feel that if anyone fucks up....well.....

Also, some clubs I've worked at have had a reputation of keeping things in order. That when someone fucks up, it's resolved very swiftly, and if they fight back, they end up bloody and in the rear seat of a cop car.

Just got in, kinda uneventful night, met a few women..but jesus christ my back is killing me. I have a herniated disc and i'm not use to standing for that long of time. It kinda bothered me last night, nothing bad..but tonight after 2 hours it was hurting like a bitch. I never thought about that bothering me, now i'm wondering about it. What sucks is if it keeps bothering me this bad i may have to quit and get something else..ugh.

Ive got scoliosis and If Im on my feet for a long period of time it will hurt like a bitch every once in awhile, if I make sure to lean on something or put my back against a wall it doesn't happen

What helps for me is to put one foot on a step or chair or something while I'm standing. Just a suggestion.

Don't set your career goals too high or you may end up disappointed.

I agree 100% with what Phreaky said. I did 7 years myself at clubs all over the UK. Including 'the' most famous club. I now instruct street defence sessions for a goup of lads that still work on the doors but packed bouncing in 2 years ago. My day job pays better wages now so no need to risk my neck anymore. I'd do it again if I had to though. You will learn so much on the doors. It can be boring at times (like stood outside an all nighter as the sun comes up, freezing your balls off, sober as a judge!) but you should make some good contacts/friends and have plenty of laughs as well.

Stick with the established doormen and make sure your team is a 'team' and your back is fully covered. Likewise, allways be prepared to back your man up, whatever the situation. That is the only way to earn respect. Don't let the drink get to you. I have seen many a good doorman start out looking good and into their training fuck up through drinking too much and getting hooked. Oh yeah 1 last thing. Treat the girls that flirt with you as hos, have fun with them and fuck them but don't get attached. Having a relationship with a girl who comes in your club every weekend can become a real pain in the arse and if you are like me and into your training you will not really be looking to settle with girls like that anyway.

I'd suggest trying to get hold of some of the books like Geoff Thompson's who has written on door work and real life defence.
