Starbuck's gouges rescue worker...

In an article from the Seattle Times: Starbuck's Drops the Ball in NY .

The gist of the article is about how a rescue worker (ambulance driver/EMT) went into a NY Starbuck's looking for water for shock victims. This was shortly following the attack on the 11th. Starbuck's charged him $130 for three cases of bottled water. The EMT paid out of his own pocket.

Anybody else hear about this? Any thoughts?

YEP HEARD ABOUT IT ON THE ORIELLY FACTOR...........

ORIELLY ALREADY HAS HAD AN EXTREME DISTASTE FOR STARBUCK WHICH IS MENTIONED IN HIS BOOK.

IT IS VERY SAD THAT THEY WOULD DO SUCH A THING.

STARBUCKS DECLINED TO COMMENT BUT REIMBURSED THE EMT SERVICE.

ANOTHER BUSINESS TO BOYCOTT!

True. I failed to mention in the synopsis that Starbuck's did apologize and reimburse the workers. However, Starbuck's management ignored them when it was first brought to their attention.

Might be, but I don't think so. Did a search on "Starbuck", "Starbucks", nothing came up. Looked around the board a little too. Didn't find anything. Possible though I guess.

I don't know if I'd really call that gouging; Starbucks didn't see the EMT's need and then jack up the price, they just charged their normal price for bottled water. Think about it from the register jockey's viewpoint; he doesn't have the authority to give away over $100 worth of product...

I suppose everyone thinks that the gas stations that the ambulances fuel up at should give them free gas, too? The ambulance service is a for-profit business, too, right? So why couldn't the ambulance service just reimburse the EMT and chalk it up to a cost of doing business? I think everyone is a bit too eager to jump the gun and label people/corporations as "unpatriotic" these days. It's a bit scary to me.

One dumb register person did this, everybody makes it seem one person's actions stand for the entire corporation. It's as dumb as saying Nordstroms is a PR genius for letting somebody return a tire to one of it's stores, even though Nordstroms is a upscale clothing store. One person's actions, not a corporations.

No, I don't support or drink Starbucks Coffee

Under normal circumstances, I'd agree with you. But come on, the WTC had just been attacked and destroyed, lying in rubble in the middle of NY. The answer is YES, I damn well expect the ambulance, fire truck, cop cars all to get free gas for a day or two.
