Squat v. Deadlift

I believe its because the equipment doesn't help in deadlift as much as it does in the squat.

I was looking at world records in powerlifting and noticed the squat is a lot more than the deadlift. I can't imagine how this is possible. I'd think the human body could deadlift a hell of a lot more than it could squat.

bingo.......... its easier for the body to let 1107 sit on your back compared to pulling up 926. i think those are the records on the squat and deadlift. squat is by brent miskell, and deadlift is by andy bolton. brent miskell might even be a better deadlifter, but he is missing a finger of one of his hands that severly impairs gripping ability.

Well...my pull 1RM (estimate) is about 100-150 pounds less than my 1RM Squat (estimate).

Gear does help...but most top powerlifters can squat a lot more than they can pull...there are more muscles involved in the squat than the pull...IMO.

Another trick...

I know a consitent 800-900 pound squatter in the 242's that uses the rebound from the bar flexing to get out of the bottom on squat. Sounds crazy, but this guy has been squatting 20+ years and can put up some big numbers in a single ply poly suit. The dead weight sitting on the floor in front of you definately doesn't give you that extra push.

Yea, I always wondered this too. My DL is higher than my squat too, but I guess when you get to really high numbers your grip becomes a problem.

I think it's a lot easier than you guys are making it. Have you ever heard the saying "The meet doesn't start until the bar hits the floor?" The deadlift is where you leave it all out on the platform. It's by far the most emotionally driven lift, but most importantly, it's the one you can get the LEAST help with. There are briefs, and squat suits, and bench shirts, etc...and you can wear SOME gear when deadlifting, but it requires more brut force than the other lifts. There's no eccentric...no rebound....no reversal strength. You can either pick it up or you can't. Many times, you will see that the person in a weight class with the highest deadlift is also the overall winner. A strong deadlifter will make or break the meet.

Deadlifting makes you a man. Besides, the squat can benefit from greater bodyweight, the deadlift- the bigger you get the farther the bar is from your center of gravity and your hands get fatter causeing it to be harder to grip the bar.

This gives me hope that I could eventually be a decent competitive powerlifter.
...chad...

You people now what I mean, it seperates the boys from the men and the girls from the women. Who wants a girl when you can have a women? :)

Oh, whatever. Go ahead and pretend you didn't email me about the Co-ed Naked Powerlifting Federation.

...and no I don't want to view your webcam.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, lmao Spatts you wern't supposed to tell anyone! Besides it was basicly alot of reverse hyper instructions, stiff legged deadlifts -and alot of real close spotting lol. oh and an oral exam at the end lol. funny stuff Spatts

If you look at the lower weight classes, the deadlift is usually higher than the squat. As you get heavy, the squat becomes easier and sometimes hinders the pull.

I am sure that Spatts hit it with her response. Also do you need judges in the cnpf?:p That is if you're competing Spatts.

does the fact that deadlift is done last have anything to do with it? the few pl meets i have seen the dead was always after the otehr two?
I use to be so fatigued by the time deadlift started that I was praying the meet would just end. I'd usually get 3 attempts on squat, 2 attempts on bench, and 1 attempt on deadlift and was fatiguing considerably along the way. I am proud to say I did a bench only meet last year and went 3 for 3! Woohoo!
