Squat suits suck

Deciever1

New member
squeezed into my z- suit today.. painful as all hell....

did 265 x 3 for 3 sets with just suit bottoms.. it was hell. i could not get form down with the suit.. it made me curl up at the bottom, prevented me from making depth because the belt latched onto my hips and rib.. and its so annoying.

all my lifts were just pure absolute power.. no technique involved.

any ideas on how to fix this?

Deciever, when you say 'curl up' at the bottom, do you mean that you lost your low back arch?

If so, the straps are too tight. If they are too tight, they will pull you foward in the hole, causing you to loose your low back arch. From there, the problems just get worse.

That could be one of the problems with the suit. Its quite common.

i didnt even have the straps up....

i think i just need toget used to it.
im devoting my DE day to working with that.. see how it goes.

mine sucks too, D. i pinches so bad i have blood blisters and once im down i can't get back up. i might do my meet raw as i can squat 100lbs+ without it on....can't get the groove of it:(

The other than knee wraps the squat suit has to be one of the most beneficial peices of equipment ever made or thought of. First off are you sure that your ordered the right size and when i mean right size did you send in the right thigh measurements (you should have had to send in mid thigh and upper thigh), hip width measurements, trunk measurement. If those are off then you will spend more time fighting the suit than gaining the proper benefits from it. Second try putting baby powder on your thighs to make sure that you got the thighs of the squat suit up to the right positition. if the legs of the squat suit get anchored too low then it will pull your hips underneath you, If you sent them the wrong measurements the leg with could be too small to get your leg actually into the suit. Third once the thighs of the suit are set in the right spot then you have to make sure that you get the ass of the suit up high enough. Shit i have to wrap the straps of my squat suit around a squat bar and physically suspend myself in the air several times to get all the way into my suit and i am 290 pounds. I have seen it take as long as 15 -20 mins for some people to get positioned properly in their suits. Fourth it is very important that you sit back into the suit when you squat. My first time in my squat suit i did the same thing that it sounds like your doing but it just took some time and practice. The suit will try and pull your hips underneath you. you need to fight that by sitting your ass back deep against the suit. Basically the suit is fighting to keep your hips extended, when you squat you flex the hips in order to decend which in turn will force you to have to fight against the suit. The fun all happens when you go to ascend and that suit kicks in fighting like hell to re extend your hips. My squat suit has aided me in as much as 150 pounds and i have seen it help people as much as 250+ pounds. Its all about understanding how it works for you. All in all it sounds like your suit is not properly sized or your not getting it on all the way. I hope this helped and good luck.

i think your squat suit is too tight still.

i also am not a big fan of the way inzer cuts his suits. if you like poly, i recommend frantz double.

Irish...been thinking about this lately. Going to order a frantz poly in case I cant figure out the canvas. For the feds that only allow 3 layers...would you recommend a single suit and double briefs....or a double suit and single briefs.

just curious...

I have had zero luck with th efrantz poly crap. I have blown out every polysuit and briefs I got from them. Once, it even happened at the APF seniors. I wanted to give ernie his shit back right there on the spot. The z-suit isn't that that bad, but it sounds like the suit isn't on all the way. Your crotch and suit must become one. I used a z suit for year andnever had a problem with the knee thing or anything else. Also zero blowouts.

dude... if you are blowing double polys they are too tight or you got a bad batch.

as far as how to layer em, it doesnt matter. either way is fine.

i really wouldnt get a canvas until you can squat 700+. you wont break parallel.

last night i put on a loose titan suit (on and off in like 45 seconds. Pulled it up into my crotch, practically suffocating it.

Squatted down, and the belt still got locked up and i could fill it scraping my hips. I was able to get to almost paralel with no weight. Then i pu 135 on and could still only get to paralel, and felt the same pain (albeit it is more bearable in a looser suit.

but i think that i do need to try and pull my z-suit or champion suit up more...cant wait til i get my suit slip ons

also, i cant get the frantz double.. only single ply is allowed

Deciever, take a measurement of your waste with a tape measurement. I will see if I have a narrower belt (top to bottom) around here. It still sounds like your torso is too short for that belt.

Personally, I think all their poly batches suck. when I blew the suit out at the sr's, not only did I blow out the dbl poly suit, but also a pair of his dbl poly briefs. I don't wear suits very tight. I can get them on in about 2 minutes. Hell, I can almost put one strap up myself. It doesn't really matter anymore -- I have switched to Ginny's dbl canvas, we'll see how that goes at the nov ipa meet. That fuckin' suit is like armor.

Cheeky, you just wanna see me in a squat suit:bigkiss:

Ummm..yeah...and....

On the first 225, you rounded your back in the hole. This is a bad thing, which will cause you to miss lifts in a heart beat.

Make sure you are pushing your chest out....and maintaining an arch in your lower back. Also, push your abs out and hold your breath. Your coming foward looked like a combination of loosing your low back arch and not keeping your abs tight.

The second rep with 225 looked a little better. It should have felt better. The SUIT CAN cause you to do this!! You have to PUSH BACK against the suit (sit back not down). If you sit straight down with a suit on.....guess what...the suit will push your foward, causing your low back to round! Try sitting back more in the suit. Don't worry you're not going to fall backwards. I think this will solve a lot of your problems, and actually make your squat stronger.

i have been reading the post and if the belt is digging into you just move the belt up higher. Their is no rule that says your belt has to be in any specific position on your hips to squat. shit for me i wear my belt up around the middle of my stomach for squatting and up even higher when i deadlift. it is the only way that i can use it to keep from digging into me. WOW i have never seen someone have so many problems with a squat suit. I wish you the best of luck. i couldn't download those pics so if you could repost them i would like to see what your doing and maybe i can offer some words of wisdom. GOod luck

My belt will leave bruises also...I have a HUGE one on my right side and hip from doing the high rep deads last weekend at my contest...

I always got pinched with my belt when doing box squats also...so I just do them raw now...
