Squat question...

When squatting, how far forward should your knees go on the way down?

I have been told that bringing the knees too far forward can place too much stress on the ankles. Is this true?

Supposedly the knees aren't supposed to go past the toes. I however unfortunately haven't been able to accomplish this no matter what weight i am squatting.

sit your ass back. don't start the lift by bending your knees. push your ass back and slightly lean forward. the knees shouldn't pass your toes. i'm describing an oly. sq. i use a high bar placement and narrow stance.

I don't think it matters. My knees go past my toes and I have little girlie ankles but no injuries/pain to speak of. I frequently squat in the 1-3 rep range, so I'd think that if it was all that bad to have the knees go past the toes, I'd know by now :D

Nice to hear i'm not the only one whose knees go past the toes. It could be a matter of genetics/leverage attachments.
