There is nothing "wrong" with leg presses. It does give the leggs a good working, no doubt about that. One must experiment to find what works for each of us as individuals.
Leg Presses make my face/head feel like it is gonna explode.
If I was gonna use a machine....I would choose hacks over leg presses but thats just me.
But I workout at home so all I do is squat squat squat
Squats are far superior. Strengthen your core and back for starters. You have to support all the weight with your body and that's not even doing the actual squat. They are most definitely diffeent exercises. Think about it...with leg press your knees come directly to your chest. If you did that with a squat you'd be on your face with 315lbs pinning your head to the mat
Crj........Look at it this way. When doing a leg press you are seated and the machine is supporting the weight. Yes, your legs (and to a lesser degree) your hams and glutes are pushing the weight up and down so yes, you are working these muscles BUT with squats it is YOU and almost every muscle in your body that is forced to hold and support the weight before and during the entire exercise. This is what makes squats so effective not only as a leg builder but it has far reaching effects towards your entire body, hormones, lungs and metabolism. Everything from your toes up to your neck is working and it is this whole body inclusion that makes squats not only the number one leg builder but probably the number one mass builder. It is often referred to as the "King" or "Daddy" of all exercises. You will hear all kinds of arguments (usually from undedicated pencil necks) that squats are bad for this and bad for that. Well, all I can say is POPPYCOCK !!!! In the end.... there is nothing incorrect utilizing other leg equipment (leg press, hacks, extensions, etc.) just do not exclude squats from your leg workout unless you have a ligitmate physical reason. Make squats the backbone of your leg workout.......and not only will you know......but you will grow
P.S.
As a footnote. You will never hear someone (anyone) use the expression
"leg press till you puke" or "leg extensions till you puke" but I wish I had a dollar for everytime I heard the expression " squat till you puke".
Those words are written in..........you got it..........puke
and they are words of wisdom................
