Squat compared to leg press?

How much can you squat and leg press? I just want to see the weight difference between the two?
 
I can leg press about 100 to 120 percent more weight on the leg press.

squats = dead weight

leg presses = assisted gravity with rails or tracks

i can 1 rep squat about 455-500lbs and that is the strongest i have ever been. 2 years ago i was donig 800lbs on leg press for sets of 12-15. so i can only imagine what i could do now for a 1 rep max.

There is no carry over from leg press to squat.

I leg press 9 plates each side...I only squat 415 with equipment.

you mean there is no carry over to POWERLIFTING squat
 
There's only one safe squat.

...and the leg press doesn't carry over to it.

Why would you want a move to help you do more weight with shitty form on a squat?
 
O I am not arguing.... im just asking for her opinion, Westside says that you can work related muscles to enhance some specific lift.... like doing box squats to train muscles involved in the deadlift... so why not train quads using leg press so that it carries over to front/olympic squat. I never even used leg press, but in theory why can't you do that
 
rev, for what its worth, narrow stance makes me lean forward too much. wider stance does take some getting used to, at least in terms of flexibility and hitting below parallel depth, but once you get used to it you can squat more. plus, with a wider nstance my freaking legs dont rub together.
 
Leg presses are excellent for building muscle in the quads, but as for total lower body strength. . its questionable.

To tell you the truth, the leg press has never helped me out with squat poundages.

Instead, I will peform the 5-8 sets of squats.
 
i suspect if there was a leg press machine that would help the squat, simmons would have invented it! from what i have read, they focus on the posterior chain, not a huge emphasis on quad strength unless one is seriously lacking in that department. if you are a bodybuilder, leg presses are probably a great secondary or peripheral movement.
 
2x for training weight, never tried to max.

Although I think it just comes out that way because I wouldn't dare put that much stress on my back/shoulders.
 
with the leg press your weakest link ( lumbars ) is eliminated hence the poundage increase ( also depending on the machine you're using ).

How are the "lumbars" the weakest link? generally, the back is the strongest area. remember the old strongman "back lift" They usexd to lift tons that way. Definitely not a weak link.
 
I leg press about 3 times what I squat. For tall lifters (im 6'4") the squat tends to hit the lower back very hard which is clearly a weak link for me.

Man, most people I know have a VERY weak back. If you see them using it, it's often because the back is too weak to stay in a tight/neutral position while the legs work...that's why people lean and dump forward.

the back squat was nothing more than a vertical leg press, just your body moves instead of your legs......... it took the low back out of the movement completely, just like the leg press does.
