Sprinting

Hey guys I am trying to lean up, i used to run track and i want to start sprinting again. I forgot what ladders i used to run though. Can someone please give me a sprinting lader that works for them. Thx Ben

Don't know about ladders, but I get good results when I run a series of 100 meter dashes. Usually 6-8 reps at full speed (after warming up) with 1-2 min rest in between.

i use an old stride test method from college football. form run at the beginning to warm up......

high knees
butt kicks
bounds
etc.

then sprint at 75% max (15-16 sec per 100m)
40 sec rest inbetween
about 8-10 reps or whatever my body can take.

do plyos after form run once you get in a lil better shape

Yeah, just run repeats covering 800-1000 m total (so 8-10 100s, 5 200s or 2-3 400s) with however much rest allows you to do the next one at a pretty high intensity.

Also, as I assume you already, maximal sprinting is really taxes the CNS and legs, so assuming you're planning to sprint multiple times per week and doing some sort of weightlifting, going at 80-90% of maximum speed would be a good plan if you don't want to bury yourself.

Ya, sprinting can really fry you if you're not ready for it.

My favorite is stair sprints for 8-10 sets. Heavier guys take less beating on the joints, you generate more strength in your legs at the loss of power since they will be moving slower than flat ground and when leaping 2 at a time it opens up your stride and helps your hops.

Least it did for me. Regular sprints on turf even, killed my shins regardless of warmups.

In the end for a short time I did about 8 stair sprints, then a 40 and a 100, 2x a week and that worked well for me.

Tried sprints on the beach yesterday. After warming up and doing pushups I kicked my shoes off and went down near the water. Did 8x100s and thought I was done until a couple of hotties walked by.

Then I just had to do one more pair.

Sprinting barefoot in the sand is good I hear, but I honestly don't know why.
