Sprinting question

OK after reading about all the benefits some of you seem to rave about when it comes to leg developmeant and sprinting ...I'm gonna give it a whirl. I am an avid runner however, I usually run for 45mins to an hour. I occasionally mix it up with a bit of HIIT but this sprinting is still a bit foreign to me. There's an old soccer field near by my house that I'm gonna do these. Just wondering, since i'm used to running steady for a certain amount of time ..how would these work...say jog for a few minutes then sprint for 30secs-1 min. How may sprints should I incorporate? Any pointers or guidelines from any of you avid "sprinters"would be much apprieciated:)
