Splitting cable questions

Is there a way to stop the quality of the picture decreasing with each time you split the line of a cable tv connection? We have it split three times coming from outside. And with each split the picture is worse. It makes perfect sense as to why, but I didn't know if there was something you could do to counter it, as I have had plenty of living arrangements in the past with split cable where the picture quality didn't diminish at all, so we must be doing something wrong here. Let a brother know.

depending on the length of each extention a 10db or 20 db gain amplifier needs to be put in line right where the cables enters the house before the split.

for real? We have about 50 ft of cable for two of the splits. I'm not sure how much on the first. Do you have to get an amp from the cable provider? Like, do they sell them at Radio Shack or anything? Are they any big deal or just a small purchase. Thanks for the help dudes.

Are you like, stealing the signal (paying one connection and having 3 instead???), in that case it might not be the wisest move to go and ask for a amp at your provider...

Radio Shack should have them...

it's all about signal strength. if it's not strong enough coming in, you'll need to bump up the signal like RADAR said.

If the cable company doesn't care how many TVs you're running OR they're the ones that hooked up all the TVs, then call them and make them sort out the problem. it depends on the cable company and the repair guy as to how much of an asshole they'll be about taking care of you. just tell the repair guy that the place has been wired like that since day 1, offer him a beer and don't ask for a reach around, and he'll probably hook you up for free.

call the cable guy to come out...give him a $10 or $20 and he'll do whatever..heck even might give you all the channels for free....only when they do an audit will they find out you are getting everything vs the basic you are paying for.....

its not illegal to split the signal once its in your house if you are paying for it to be brought into your house

ask for the amplifier to be placed before teh first split and you should spit it once get a 1 to 3 splitter

some cable companies try to throw a shit fit over the whole deal though if you've got digital cable. ours did, trying to claim we needed separate lines run into the house for each and every TV and a digital cable box for each one. load of bullshit. 4 TVs running off of one line and one of them is hooked to a digital cable box and there's no loss of signal to any one of them. they just wanted us to rent more digital cable boxes.

speaking of which, i really have no need for the digital cable anyway. i should tell them to come pick up their converter box.
