Speed Deads: question on grip

Routine as it is now:
Tuesday - Max Pull (currently rack pulls, chins, rows, rear delts, bi's)

Wednesday - Max Push (Cl. Gr. Bench, Floor Press, DB or Hammer Strength Incline Press, 1 Tri movement isolator)

Friday - Speed Pull (back/front squats, speed deads, pulldowns, bi's)

Saturday - Speed Push (bench, push press, shoulder press & side delts, tri
finisher)

Situation: Since I like to transfer most of my workouts over to Olympic Lifting and general strength - I utilize an overhand grip on all pulls/deads. On rack pulls - straps are used. With Speed Deads - 10 x 1 @ 335 with an overhand grip (no straps, no hook grip), rest time 30 seconds.

QUESTION: Would it be advisable to utilize a mixed grip? If so - on speed deads alone? Or should I think about dropping the straps from rack pulls? In the future I plan on doing another powerlifting meet - but in the meantime, cleans and snatch are my goals.

Note: straps are only used on rack pulls.

i would say if your doing your speed work with 335 without straps with overhand grip, you should be alright. on your rack pulls i would utilize a mixed grip until it is too fatigued and then finish up with straps

Agreed, work up as heavy as you can without them and use them if you have to. Everyone knows, eventually your hands will become hamburger.

you could mix your grip. when i do this, especially for some speed work, you could alternate which hand is palms up every other set.

Figures the Oly Lifter would chime in with the pro-thumb crusher idea.

Appreciate the feedback. My reason for asking is that on speed deads at this weight - grip strength is NOT an issue (fatigue wise), just that I was curious to see/find out if there would be any marked benefit from switching to the mixed grip.

And by the way - DO NOT BUT PROGRYP STRAPS !!! I got a pair of the 2" wide cotton/neoprene wrist padded ones 4 weeks ago. Using some chalk on the bar for added grip on rack pulls - ripped on in half mid pull. 600# crashing on to the safey bars of the power rack made one hell of a noise. Not to mention mine blown confidence/concentration for the workout. Buyer beware.

well hookgrip need to be used regularly to build it up, once your used to it, it doesn't really hurt, except when you go ultra heavy, but even that doesn't hurt after a while :)
