was their many different races of peeps in the ukraine?
is their any animosity towards germans? jews?
what about americans, what's their opinion of us?
did you get to see the countrside and visit smaller towns/villages?
thanks

I'd like to hear too

I knwo this q is specifically to spart and I'm sure he;ll get on it... but I'll throw my view in as I'm in Russia... in case you're interested in eastern europe in general... it seems it's predominantly white but I've spotted a few blacks some at the university and some in the street.... they are actually called "neeGER" here and they are very few and far between I could actually count all that I've seen on two hands and the city I live in is approx 350,000 there are a few more indians and a some arabs, some asians, some gypsy types... darker skin than white but dunno their ethnicity at all!! but 98% percent of the people I see are white!! there are only two languages that are taught in secondary school as a third language english and german, and I've met a few people who have travelled to germany and others with friends working there or planning to go there... so I'd say the animosity towards germans is pretty much none... I think they, like the most everybody else in the world seperates the whole Nazi thing from Germany, kinda the same way we seperate the US from the KKK. though there may be some unvoiced animosity... however I have seen a number of swastikas and and the word Nazi spraypainted on some buildings. the rligions are either orthodox christian or muslim... lots of muslims!! and not dark skinned arab muslims, blue eyed white skinned muslims. as for Americans they really dig our culture and alot of young folks mimic it, "rap cool" spray painted on one wall I saw illustrates my point!! haha!! though I don't think they are really big fans of bush and they are somewhat worried about the whole Iraq war and what's going on with Iran, before I began training at a one high level facilty I had to meet with some of the guys who ran the gym... they stated, I was possibly an agent, and I had basically had a few interviews beofre they took me on and one was a long political conversation about the Iraq war. after my third meeting/visit they lined me up with my trainers and the folks I'd be training with but it took some time!! and when they speak about the goverment they whisper and usually glance around at the wallls especially when in complaint!! which is kind of a trip!! the life is more simple... in all ways!! though they are catching up to the west and I've seen a bunch of teens walkin around chattin on their cell phones or playin music out of them!! the smaller towns/vllages are my favorite part... I get to hang out with my gf's family at their dacha/summer home which is really more of a cbin on a about 1.5 acre with the main chunk of land dedicated to potatoes, onions, garlic, etc which are staples in the diet and the work it all by hand!! which I've had the pleasure of helping them with!! many folks that live in the city have dachas and they are quite proud of them!! the family I hang out with make their own chees milk their goat, make their own vodka, and these things are quite common I've had several different home-made vodka from different people and it''l definitely put hair on your chest!! anyways that's just a small scope, sorry it was so long and maybe spart will get here and answer your q

I've been here a few months and I'll be here through the end of the summer... this was definitely a trip worth taking and I'm already planning a second visit, and I def rec it, it's a cool place to visit!!

one race
white people/caucasians

ahrd to ascertain any animosity towards anyone
personally I felt welcomed by all and I visited and hung out with quite a few locals
kids were buying me biers and I'd try to stop them and let me pay
one guy gave me a real cool lighter that was relatively expensive
I forgot about it and left it in my travel bag only to be confiscated at the airport
and that kinda pissed me off

we took two long bus trips and I sat up front with the driver so I could see as much as I could
I wish I had photographed those bus tours
8 hours of Ukranian country side and then another 2 4 hours bus trips

in one city(Zaporozyhe) I had a local woman take me via taxi of a tour of that city(see the back in the USSR thread)

here's a shot of the "suburbs" od Dnipropetrovsk as we bussed back in

good post lion
and it wasn't the nazis the invaded russia it was the germans
some historical beef between germans and slavs, long before the nazis
that's why i asked, to see if this was still the case

actually I'm pretty sure it was the Nazis, which was essentially the German Army... Hitler had actually made a non-aggression pact with Russia and and then proceeded to sneak a shit ton of tanks in and before Russia knew what was going on they were getting slaughtered!! the Russians I have spoken to that know a little world history put it to the likes of our Pearl Harbor. I'm sure if you google it you can find the same
answer... as far as the same beef going way back I can't speak on... but long story short, no they don't seem to be oppsed to germans in particular... many speak the language, have traveled there/worked there... or have friends or family that have!! I've met more people heree that have been to germany than the US

and what about the boozing sterotype...does that hold true?
didn't see too much of that
I'd walk the streets late at night after midnight(couldn't sleep) and I'd see a few
the city had these little street corner stores that would sell beer, tobacco and other little shit 24 hours
and there would be some traffic late night but not much
