what's the diff or where is the line?
I do hit my kids on the ass (not bare ass) from time to time after warning the ass slap is coming.

I have learned that spanking only teaches them to hit somebody when you're mad at them!

anyway, in your opinon what takes it from a spanking to a beating?
I was never beat as a kid. If I was spanked it was only 1 slap on the ass. But I had friends who told me they got "major lickings"

Showing anger when you spank will teach them to hit when they are mad. Easier said than done. My mother has been a foster parent for 20 years or so. Bruising that last 24 hrs or longer generally qualify as abuse. But the laws may have changed in the 11 years since I lived at home.

I don't believe in inflicting pain on a child for any reason, unless you wake up in the middle of the night ,and they are standing there with a gun to you're head.

TOTW potential right here. People's personal opinions are always different than what the State Officials and Laws say.
there is a different between Corporal Punishment (physical discipline) and what is considered Physical Abuse. These are not one in the same, but they can be. Meaning, all corporal punishment would not be considered Child Abuse in the eyes of the law. Llightly spanking a kid on their rump is not considered Child Abuse. Although some people are so much against any spanking at all, they would believe it is.

I have one. Also, my previous job was as a Licensed Child Welfare Professional for Cook County for 12 years. I've pretty much seen it all when it comes to Child Abuse and Neglect

A spanking is not abuse. period.

An adult doesn't need to be told the difference.

I got the spanked with hands, belts, wooden spoons (when they broke, it was plastic spatulas) and switches I got to pick out.
Nothing wrong with it. More parents should spank.

The best way to get a sugar filled screaming kid to behave is to try to relate to it, show it respect and try to understand it's feelings.

if that doesn't work, a stern talking to followed by a time out would be the best route.

sometimes, I wish I were allowed to spank other peoples kids

My parents spanked me, they used wooden spoons.
My dad only beat me once and thats when I cursed at my mother. He taught me never to disrespect a women. It worked!
