Sometimes I hate people

PHATchik

Studio Gangsta
Last night, production at the paper was especially tough because we had a special NCAA section in it. What made it worse was that I had my Photo editor and photographers coming in complaining about my Sports editor. She apparently decided she wanted to go to the game free of charge and went behind my back to get a press pass as a photographer. She didn't discuss this with me or my photographers. What's worse is we are giving her traveling money because she went straight to our secretary who assumed it was okay. We're sending our basketball reporter to the game, but we would have sent one of our actual photographers too.

I was tempted to revoke her press pass by calling the university administration, but I didn't. I called her on it though and told her that I didn't appreciate her practices. She tells me that she is tired of the bullshit that goes on at the paper and that she has had no support there since August. Well, March is a fine time to tell me she's unhappy. SHe says that she deserves better than what she is getting, blah blah blah. She informed me that she really doesn't need this crap and that I should try working 3 part-time jobs and raising a 7-year-old. She threatened to quit, and I told her I understood, to take this weekend to think about it and give me her decision Sunday at production.

This isn't an offense worth firing her over, but I am sick and tired of hearing her bitch every since production day about something different. I can easily find another Sports Editor, even if I have to lay out the damn pages myself.

Sorry, I just felt like ranting.

i love how sometimes certain people with kids and jobs think the world is supposed to compromise for their sake....

She plays the child card to the hilt. I have a lot of respect for people whoare working, taking classes, and raising kids, but don't use that. If you honestly expect so much sympathy over it, then why do it? If it's a hardship, get over it.

Integrity violations are always a legitimate caase for dismissal.

Have the fortitude to do it after she gets back. Actions have consequences.

You cannot profess to 'hate people' if you are unwilling to use your authority and responsibility when you have it, to modify their behavior.

#1, I don't literally mean I hate people. If I did, I wouldn't put up with you or anyone else.

#2, I'm not going to fire her over this. She honestly doesn't realize she did anything wrong. I don't believe that, if she decides to stay, she deserves to be fired over this. She's been reprimanded and informed that all decisions of this nature will go through the Executive Editor, namely me. She usd no lines of communication. This is not a mistake she will make again.

This may be a moot point anyway, if she chooses to resign her position.

And Shadow, this woman is at least 125 heavier than me, and it's not muscle. She will slap back.

OK. you're in a good mood today, catch you later.

Matt - yes, I'm just in a peachy mood today. Thanks for noticing. I had a kid tell me today that I looked 33. I guess when I have my glasses on and my hair pulled back, I look older, but 33? I was playing a rousing games of Sharks and Minnows with them, and after so many rounds, I was pooped. I commented that I am getting too old for this and he said, "You're not old, you're only 33." He seriously thought that is how old I am. He only added 11 years on.

And FZ, I expect people to speak their mind to me. She got a bit out of line, but I held my own thanks. Diplomatic as always, but I held my own.

Don't feel so bad - I AM 34.
:worried:

I think women must get way weirder about this than men do.

Besides, he's a kid...not like he's going to be a great judge of age. You really are ancient to him.

It's not the age that bothers me. I have no problem with being 33. If I was 33. To me, that's not old. I just don't think I like knowing that I look 10 years older than I am. Does this mean I'll look 40-something when I am 32?

To kids, yes.

Oh...my.....god. Girl, that's grounds for immediate strangulation.

It's been a long week anyway. The last 2 weeks have been hell. I've pissed off guys by making them jealous when I don't even know what I did or that he would be jealous. Kids think I am old enough to be their mother (yes, one said this). Age isn't an issue with me, whether it is with guys I am involved with or anything else. I have several friends that are 30ish or above. So please don't think I am insulted. I guess I just don't like to think the years are already not treating me well.

I'm just playing with you.

33 - is juts an odd number for someone to pick so I would say he just gave a number to what he thought sounded good.

Little kids always want to be older - so keep that in mind.

That's true Velvett. And this little boy is 9-years-old, but he is the size of our kindergarden kids. After he realized I didn't like the number he picked, he apologized and said, "How about 19? Does that suit you better?" lol.

BTW, Project, this guy is watching Strongbad on his computer. Good thing I actually like Homestarrunner or I'd tell him to turn it off. lol.

Sounds like she is a very negative person with a attitude problem. That can make anyones job alot more stressful and harder to do.

Hopefully she will quit and you can get someone who will apprerciate the job.

I'll lay you out on the sports pages or any other section....except maybe Homes & Garden.

She called my Photo Editor last night and bitched at her. She told her also that she doesn't want to finish out the semester. She had no right to call and get upset with the Photo Editor over her being concerned over this whole issue. Communication is one thing, going off on her is another. But my Photo Editor has offered to take over the Sports section if need be. SO that's one load off my back.

I saw that coming.

And guys, I'm not insulted or upset over the kid telling me I look 33. I know I don't. He's not the first though that has insinuated that I look older than I really am. I get it all the time from the kids. Hell, when I was their age, I thought most anyone over 25 was kinda up there. lol. Just quit reading so much into my comments.

That last one was for Project and From Zero.

I now officially have no earthly idea what you're talking about.

Phatchik - consider this fabulous practice for what you'll be running into in the next few years.

:)

I'm pretty should you'll find the best solution at the time.

Lol. I'm not really concerned with it too much. I'm actually looking forward to getting older and getting past all the bullshit that goes along with being in my early 20s (including dealing with people that same age). I think life would be much simpler for me if I really was 33 now. lol. I mean, I'm 22, I graduate in a little over a month, and I have no direction in my life. Fun huh?

An update. She quit last night. What pissed me off though was she wasn't planning on telling me. She was just going to do her layout and then leave. I had to call her over and ask her for her decision. She's going to finish up this month. So now, I am going to offer the position in-house. There's definitely some staff that could take over. I think this is really for the best.
