It was sitting by the dumpster at the gym. It wasn't there when I went in. The case was open and I saw everything inside, including two hard drives. I assume the peeps think it was broken but I am a ninja and I'm tempted to see what is on the hard drives.

Am I wrong to do this? Imagine someone taking your computer and looking at everything on your hard drive.

Yes, the computer is sitting in my trunk. I am tempted to just give it to the computer peeps who fix and give them to poor people BUT there could be hidden gems on the 200GB and 1TB hard drives.

They don't sell many vendor rigs (if any) that have a 200GB and 1 TB drive, so chances are this person was at least somewhat PC-proficient. He probably wiped the drives before he threw them out. Either that or he was blitzed out of his mind and only now just remembered what he did.

First, erase the hard drives. There is tons of info on the net about this.

Second, do not put it in the trash. The metals in the computer are toxic and hurt the environment. Every town has places where you can recycle computers or non-profits that will fix them up and give them away to poor people.

That doesn't erase a disk. It just erases the index of which file is kept where by writing zeros on the first section of the disk. if you go to an office building and there's no directory on the wall that says what company is in each office you could still figure out where Acme company is by just going door to door and peaking in til you find them.
