Here's something you see a lot of:
"Which bicep/delt/leg/back/chest routine will give me that/those unbelievable peak/cuts/roundness/size?!?!1111 Thanks."
Firstly, I do not insult people who make threads like this because I understand their reasoning. "Find person will successful trait X, and emulate their behavior to obtain that trait," or, "do what successful people do." Well that's generally a good philosophy.
So people will post up a thread like that. Here's a generic one: "My biceps have trouble growing. What should I do? Here's my current routine: (some standing curls, some sitting, mix of barbells and dumbbells)
People will chime in with "try doing these exercises, try changing this frequency, or try changing volume."
I think this advice is a tad faulty. Why?
Look around. Everybody's doing the same movements!!! There's really only two things you can do for chest: presses and flyes. There's really only two things you can do for quads: presses (squats) or extension. There's really only three things you can do for shoulders: presses, raises, or upright rows.
When you see somebody with that perfect bodypart and wonder what they did to get it, the answer is not a list of exercises, sets, reps, and weights.
I have a really good chest and shoulder shape. It's genetic. My chest looks better at 160-170 than a lot of guys I've seen who do roids and weigh 220+. If someone asks me my chest routine, I'll tell them. (dips and slight incline presses). If they do my routine, their chest will probably grow. But it will never make their chest look like my chest.
You can gain a lot of size naturally. You can gain even more size with roids, and they will slightly accentuate the growth of your shoulder girdle bodyparts. Gained size will change the overall look of your body significantly. But making a muscle bigger will not change its shape. If you have flat, unimpressive biceps, like me, growth will just result in thicker biceps that are still flat and unimpressive. Mr Universes probably already looked pretty good before they ever thought of stepping on stage.
I say this not to make people pessimistic, but to remove false hope. If one's gains are more in line with what one expects, then one will avoid frustration and weight training will be a more rewarding venture.
