Do you workout alone or with a partner? State reasons why and how you motivate yourself either way

I workout alone, I like the challenge of mentally psyching myself up and having the pleasure of inflicting maximal effort without help. Its good to be able to motivate yourself.

I hate people who talk to me, infact I dont talk to anyone, if they try and talk to me I give them a one word answer then ignore them. I AM THERE TO TRAIN, NOT TO FUCK ABOUT. Most people dont talk to me now, they think I am ignorant, I am not I am just focused.

In the gym I am in control of my destiny and my world, there is no fat shit telling me what to do like at work, I am my own god, I think this moment should be relished. I dont need a workout partner or want one.

Do you ever find that this kind of hard earned motivation roles over into other places like work?

It gives you a whole new perspective on how people go about there lazy lives

I think the word for it is empowered

work, no, there are a LOT of people at my workplace who are very dedicated to the job... my workout schedule is often frowned at since i don't come in at 8 and leave at 8...

but definately just looking at people i know (aquaintances and such) that could do so much more with their lives, but they're just lazy...

I was lucky enough to have 2 good training partners. The first was my father, who basically got me started training. The next was a girl who worked w/ me at the gym. She was good because she was always there and she was a pro athlete.

Other then that, The other ones I had, where never on time, or didn't want to change "THERE" workout. Or my they just wanted to talk about there problems, then we have my personal favorite, they can't do any basic movments such as squats or deadlifts due to old injuries. The bitches are more fuckin trouble then they are worth.

I NORMALLY WORK OUT ALONE BUT I'VE BEEN WORKING OUT WITH A PARTNER RECENTLY ONCE A WEEK. IT'S A GREAT CHANGE OF PACE. I MOTIVATE MYSELF BY THINKING ITS THE SUMMER AND I GOTTA LOOK GOOD IN A 2 PIECE. I ALSO HAVE FRIENDS THAT COMPETE IN FITNESS SO I TRY TO LOOK MY BEST TO KEEP UP WITH THEM (OR STAY CLOSE). AFTER A LONG DAY AT WORK AND DEALING WITH DRAMA, I REALLY DONT NEED THAT MUCH MOTIVATION TO GET INTO THE GYM. I TAKE MY FRUSTRATIONS OUT ON THE WEIGHTS. THE HARDER THE DAY, THE MORE INTENSE MY WORKOUT IS GOING TO BE.

I train alone but ask for spots so i an go beyond failure.

I talk to people regularly in my gym.

The better i know someone, the more aquainted we are. The more aquainted we are, the more i can trust them to be good spotters - it's like if they know me, they pay more attention and make more effort to spot good. If i ask a stanger they come over and most don't give a shit.

I always train alone... no one is as into bodybuilding as I am and no one really knows what their talking about at my age either. :(:(

A partner will almost always help you do more than you could alone. Problem is trying to find someone to keep up with me, in the gym and schedule wise. It's more trouble than it's worth.

Bump to Rob, there will always be someone around to spot you with the heavy stuff. You can tell who knows what they're doing from the new guys.

I can't deal with any workout partner, no matter how serious they are. It just screws up maintaining my focus and causes the workout to fall into energy peaks and valleys.I just need-- the music.

I'm the exact same way...the guys I know who work out arr the morons who think they can do 22309238 crunches and starve themselves and expect to have a 6 pack the next day for a pool party...pretty sad

Also, I work out in the YMCA cuz I'm not old enuff to work out in a real gym...I'm 14 and stronger then every1 who goes there LOL

I work out alone because of my work schedule, and most partners tend to slow me own. I find that I can motivate myself pretty well, the key for me is remembering my goal, and pushing myself to reach those goals. You just stay focused.

I swear I was just thinking about this the other day....I used to workout by myself and I loved it....but I started training with a good buddy of mine and pushes me beyond belief.....he keeps reminding me not to be a lazy ass, and he knows how I like to be spotted when I need it.....I wouldn't have thought this before but it's definately beneficial to have him there to work out with me. I would even go as far to say that my workouts suck when my partner isn't there to push me.

i workout alone,my friends are all to lazy to put in the dedication i have been and they all ran out to buy some n large to because they think thats what i am on that got me up to 177 from 165 in about 3 weeks,i dont even ask for a spot at the gym usually unless im doing squats,i let one guy try to spot me on declines last week and i was pushing hard because i generally cant and this guy grabs the bar from me and i said im ok im ok and then he took it and racked it,i was pissed off large

I have worked out alone and with a partner. For the past 6 months I have had an awesome training partner and have seen gains that I never would have seen without the motivation given by my training partner....Thanx Glootz:D

Well said!!!

definitely no workout partner wanted!!! Whenever someone gets me to workout with them they always want to do different exercises that i really don't like. That shit always pisses me off. Also every time i do more weight than them on some exercise they feel like they have to start making excuses (ex. i am going light today). They don't realize i could care less what their excuse is. Then if they do more weight than me, then they feel like they should start giving me pointers.

Screw that!

Funny, I had workout partner for a while and he always complained that I "too intense" while I was working out. What the hell isn't that the point? Needless to say he doesn't even show up at the gym anymore.

I have been going to this gym long enough to know who can give a good spot and who can't, a good spot is all I need.

I have a workout partner when our schedules allow us to workout together. I love hitting the gym with him because he yells at me and gets me pumped. Hes also one of the few people at my gym that I trust to spot me. He knows exactly when to touch the weights and when not to.

i rather train alone, 'cause i don't compromise on what i wanna do any given workout, i like to do my thing. if someone wants to follow my lead, i enjoy training with someone too.

I TRAIN ALONE....I FEEL IT HELPS ME BETTER... I JUST CANT STAND IT WHEN SOMEONE IS IN THE GYM BENCHPRESSING ABOUT 225 AND HIS PARTNER IS STANDING THERE SCREAMING "CMON CMON YEAH THATS IT" FUCK THAT...THAT DISTRACTS ME AND AND EVERYONE ELSE AND CAUSES A SCENE....OH WELL TO EACH HIS OWN THOUGH...

I trained by myself for five years because I couldn't find someone who would train like I did. You know when you make training just as important if not more important then everything else you do every day. I kept myself motivated but would always get stuck or wouldn't be able to push to failure. Well i got a great partner now who is pushing me far into new growth and it does wonders for motivation. Man am I sore.....but in a good way!

You are very lucky man!!... finding a compatible training partner is as difficult, if not more, as finding your other half!! :)

I 'can' workout alone... but I prefer with a partner... I like pushing my partner and I like the little 'competition' there...

JUST GIV'R

Well you pretty much said it.My first couple of years I trained with a partner, then with a dude who had a good 40lbs of solid steel on me.I learned alot from his experience, but as we grow needs change.I have trained on my own for a long time now and love it,when a spot is required I just ask one of the other boys who trains alone. Most advanced guys tend to know what works for them and training with others often screws them up,many of my biggest friends train alone right beside me .Sounds like you have the focus you need for serious gains as it is.JUST GIV'R!!

i TRAIN W/ A PARTNER. Who is a complete idiot when it comes down to it. Im taking him under my wing. lol. ALL he knows how to do is push himself to the max. I help him w/ form, sets, etc. I just like having motivation, he aslo was at the gym 2-3 months before i joined, since i have trained with him he has gained 15lbs. So he preety much listens to me. I just like having someone there to talk to, relate to, and really push me when i dont think i can, Like alot of times ill be going for 5 reps MAX, and he'll notice it was TOO easy for me, and he will be like comon 2 more. Shit like that i need at the gym.
